Photo number 11 is better than the other, although both are off somewhat. the better one still has a yellowish or greenish cast to it. Also, at the top of the pic there's some flare/ghosting type of effect going on. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30362107&...

I would suggest also you need to be supplementing the environmental lighting with some subtle off-camera lighting, be it flash, torchlight, etc.
Why not go out today, while it's overcast (at least, it is here), so you have nice soft lighting, and shoot some images. Try upping the saturation a bit, see what happens (just a suggestion by the way, not necessarily the right thing to do).

oh thank you for the help i will try some of the techniques and will post the results
would there be any chance of having some help in actually shooting and editing the images???? to try and increase my style and quality of my images?.

The first bit of advice I'd give is to slow down, take your time, and don't just fire away.
For me my photography improved tremendously when I planned ahead what shot I wanted to get. When I'm shooting a car the first thing I do is search flickr for other photos of that car to see what angles and treatments work best. I keep a notebook where I keep notes and draw diagrams, and then before I've even picked up the camera I know exactly what I'm hoping to get. If I get one good photo from a shoot I'm happy.
You need to know in advance what location you are using, and it needs to compliment the car. Don't shoot at car shows, car meets or at night unless you have some good lighting available. Go out with your own car and practice - that's what I do.
Look at the work of these guys - all of them post on PH (although we haven't seen Matt or Magnus for ages), and all of them should inspire you to be better:

Matt Watkinson http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattwatkinson/
Magnus Glantz http://www.flickr.com/photos/magnusglantz/
Nick Grant http://www.grantgb.com/content/
Finally - don't put photos on facebook. Flickr is free and to put it simply, better.

Hi,
I was in the same situation as you a little while back and was thinking of asking about photographing someone else's car. I decided to continue to shoot my dad and friend's cars first before coming on here as I wanted to be at a good level so I would be taken seriously. I waited then asked when I got to a reasonable level (which now looking back still wasn't really a high enough level) so that when I asked I got a great response.
Keep at it and practice, then come back and ask if you can shoot someone's car and I'm sure that they would be up for it
George
ps. my website is in my profile if you want to have a look

You're at Uni doing photography but you don't seem to know the basics? Is this the norm in Universities these days? Don't you need to do a foundation course or at least have some form of talent for your chosen subject these days to gain your place in Uni? Apologies if that sounds harsh but I think you've got a very long way to go. I did a very humble 2 year OND in audio visual studies before they'd even consider me trying anything in my chosen path in film and tv. What's the entry qualifications for a Uni photography course these days ?

What are you trying to convey with these shots? What's your message behind them that you hope people will see (or feel) upon viewing the photos?

Sorry, unable to comment on the pics as work blocks all the good sites (except PH) and, yep, I'm currently at work.
So, you need cars and you need 'em quick. Just a thought but why don't you find an event or trackday near you and attend? You may only get as far as the carpark if you're not willing to pay to get in the event but there should be cars galore in the car parks. Trackdays - find out who the track day organiser is and ask them if they wouldn't mind you attending (explaining why, of course). There'll be plenty of nice cars in the paddock and garages when they're not out on track and you can usually get as far as the car park and paddocks for free.
Shoot until your camera smokes!! There's no substitution for practice.
Thx,
Scott

I'm not fancying your chances if this is a rush job. looks like you've got a lot to learn and photographing cars is NOT easy and you're making it harder for yourself adding portraiture into the mix. MAybe you could try to distill the idea a bit, Shoot selected parts of the car? Wing mirror with partial reflection of the owner in it for example?
Good luck with it all.

I am going to Santa Pod and Brands Hatch next weekend and then MPH Motor show in November. I will keep that in mind.
Scott330ci - I know my English isn't great but i have difficulty with my English thank you. I use a Canon 50D and 400D with a sigma 50mm DGmacro and a Canon 80-200mm EF lens. Is this where i go wrong?
Scho - Should I change my idea so that there are only parts of the car like you said instead of the whole car and owner?
