Is there anything else with a tail like a Red Kite?
I didn't have camera to hand but a bird of prey just flew over me and I had a fantastic view of the outline. Just so surprised if it is a Red Kite because I'm in south west Hertfordshire!
There are loads near High Wycombe... not too far away (for a Kite)I didn't have camera to hand but a bird of prey just flew over me and I had a fantastic view of the outline. Just so surprised if it is a Red Kite because I'm in south west Hertfordshire!
Really happy with this Red Kite I captured about an hour before sunset just south of Reading. Infuriating number of bad shots though - I love my 70-200 f2.8 lens, but the autofocus really seems to struggle with birds in flight.

Great shot Mike, sharp enough to shave with. ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Cheers. Yes - *in decent light* there's no doubt you can get a sharp shot with the RX10iii. Amazing bit of kit really - it falls apart pretty quickly above iso400 but aside from that it's very impressive (sharp all the way from 24-600 effective even wide open). Closest thing yet to the photographic nirvana of 1 camera + lens to do it all ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

It's a Dunnock Mike. They did used to be called Hedge Sparrows though!![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/719/32731284395_12ef621bae_k.jpg)

By the way - it was shot wide open (f4), 600mm equiv (max focal length) and handheld at 1/30th!
Good bit of kit the RX10iii![thumbup](/inc/images/thumbup.gif)
When you think how much it would cost to buy a full 600mm lens and a body to make best use of it the RX10iii starts to look quite inexpensive for that sort of work.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

Flikr says 1/80th btw. Obviously that is much less impressive ....

Mind you, a robin at that speed ... hmm. Are you sure it was not a stuffed one? It certainly looks well fed!
