What would be really impressive on a shot like that would be some fill flash to lighten the plane a little.

Not sure that there are any strobes that would do it. A searchlight perhaps? WW2 style? I don't suppose you can get the bulbs for them these days. Bloody EU regulations ....

I suppose one of those powerful laser thingies would be out of the question .....?

yikes Terrorist!

Nah, a terrorist would be on board the plane trying to light it up from the inside.

For the ignorant amongst us, do tell how you did that.
All long exposures...top one was someone using a light stick with many leds and the other two wire wool set on fire and spun in a balloon type whisk, magnesium added to give the white light. Bottom one was two people one doing the orb and one walking past.

^^^ Nice one Dave.

Was down at the bridges last night to see how my new one is coming along - definitely getting there! The gaps will be quite small in the next 6 months and that should be the most interesting time before it's finished. They were lifting an 800 ton (yikes) section last night.

ps - this is 'Velvia' mode on the XT1. Normally seems OTT to me but the sunset was a bit of a non-event and it certainly livened it up a bit wink

As someone who has used Velvia so often, it does look pretty close - a bit purple perhaps (closer to Velvia 100) but not far off.

I like this. Flip it 90 degrees (either way) and it'd make a nice abstract wallpaper.

Nice DD.

Must be an interesting job driving the crane thing. Presumably there is an elevator of some sort to get to the cab?

I hope they do manage to fill the gaps at some point. The ride might be a bit too interesting otherwise.

That really makes you think about the size of things

@longQ no lift its all ladders which can take half and hour or more to climb on the big cranes and you go before you start your climb otherwise its a bottle which you bring back down with you. Not my experience but a question I asked of an old school friend I know that was working on the cranes around London
