I qualified as a UAV pilot today, I just need to sort out my Ops manual and it'll be time to give up driving trucks for a living.
Congratulations! What does that entail, as a hot air ballon pilot/ex air traffic controller I have wondered if any of the air law etc exams I have covered would be applicable to drones.

You should have GPS mode, Attitude mode (the brain keeps the craft's attitude) and manual mode (you are the only thing telling it what
angle it should be at)
ETA I'm not sure what the phantom has but the other DJI controllers all (wookong, naza, A2 all have the three modes)

Awesome pics chaps as always.
Slightly off topic, any of you had experience with Drones Direct? They have a few bundle deals on a P3 Advanced. Thought I would seek the advice of the PH collective before parting with my cash.
Many thanks
No experience myself but, if you're starting from scratch. A cheap one to crash first is the way forward. I've had great service from Heliguy. Sorry, it's a beery night in Gloucester. Afternoon all,
I'm glad to be joining the club, I've just ordered a Phantom 3 Standard. Can't wait for it to arrive! I've bought it primarily for photography.
I am planning on taking it abroad with me, what would people recommend for transporting it? Hard shell case, soft case backpack?
Does anyone know how well it will work abroad without a data connection? I presume the maps will not work? Or should I just stump up the money and pay for some data? Is there a clever way to download maps prior to say leaving the hotel, then using it for flying?

I've read, and re-read the proceedure, checked out videos, but at my age I get a bit cynical when something says it's as easy as that. :-) Will report back after first flight.
Download Sky Demon Lite, it'll allow you to see if you're in restricted airspace. Wimbledon Common is almost certainly a no no and if you're being paid to fly it by the Uni you'll need an RPAS qualification to stay inside the law.For professional work the Inspire is a better choice. As for ANYTHING that pays,in any way, you need have the relevant qualifications before you operate. For offshore work I'm not sure either one would be up to the job apart from the calmest of days. Aerialtronics is a company that specialises in high powered inspection drones but the prices will make your eyes water if you're considering using DJI.

I'm aware of the need for qualifications, but intend to learn to fly the thing before charging anyone anything. At the moment this is just an idea that might turn into something more.
Go for it, I started with a £40 Syma and jumped straight to an inspire. All I have to do now is gain my PfCO and I'll be up and running. Good Luck.
This is a long winded piece of tosh but I thought I'd share as it shows how bad I am and how good the DJI OSMO is.
