So how do you get the 'car in a welding workshop' look? I take it that it's a long exposure with some small light moved around the image...what light creates that effect?Gilhooligan said:

Set steel wool on fire and spin it about. james_tigerwoods said:

Set steel wool on fire and spin it about. Couple of varied shots from me, some awesome work in this thread. Want to go out in to Snowdonia soon and get some milky way images!

Not quite in the same league but I had a bit of a go this evening
Really appreciate some feedback and pointers, going to try and use the tripod and do some longer exposure stuff of cars and the old building by the river. Not sure about wondering around the city with a tripod looking a wally, perhaps get rid of some the shaking from soft southern hands in the cold weather.

I'm by no means an expert, but I'd say a tripod is pretty much a "must" for these - your third shot is quite fuzzy from being handheld I think. The old building by the river is nice, maybe earlier before it's gone quite so dark would improve it by filling out the rest of the image a bit.I'm jealous of all of you with easy access to city centres, I must get off my backside and go somewhere. I also wondered about wandering around with a tripod, but I imagine most people will just ignore you once they can see it's not a machine gun. Trouble is, when we get clear nights that are good for photography at this time of year, it's also very cold indeed.
Found it - it turns out it was taken 4 years ago today. I'm not 100% on the processing, so may revisit it.

This is the Hungarian Parliament building, the Magyar Országház shot in April 2012 at about 9pm. I mounted the camera on a tripod but, despite being on the land side of the bridge (over the Danube), I could still feel the vibrations left by buses and trucks, hence the not quite sharp image. I'm nevertheless quite pleased with it.

Around midnight last night I was creeping around the church yard opposite my house, as you do, and took these two. I'm not actually happy with either of them, but feel they both have something about them that I can't put my figure on.
Annoyingly there was movement in the cobwebs which I could do nothing about and though it was shot at ISO100, it looks pixelated after processing it a bit. Probably under exposed to start with?
Picture 2 has that horrible red blotch by the window that I don't know how to remove. Any PS advice on how to get rid of it?
I'm sure there's some layer mask filter you could do in PS but why would you, it's a feature of the stained glass window? I don't think it detracts too much, perhaps wind back the exposure a bit in PP might reduce its impact. I quite like the red glow over the green of the grassAnnoyingly there was movement in the cobwebs which I could do nothing about and though it was shot at ISO100, it looks pixelated after processing it a bit. You can keep your Salisbury, Winchester, Wells, Canterbury, York or Durham versions. If you heathens hadn't realised, this is the exceedingly beautiful and imposing Lincoln Cathedral, the tallest building in the world..........until the middle of the 14th Century!
Biased.....moi!....heaven forbid!!
