Evening and night photography
Discussion
Night photography isn't my strong point but I like to have a try every now and again. Would love to capture the milky way one day (or night lol).

That's HR image stacking I presume?
Handheld gives different results.
HR/HDR stacking is not something I do usually. I think the only image there where I tried it was the colourful Miami hotels image as I tried it as a ‘technique’ years ago, but I really don’t like the look. Won’t use it again.Handheld gives different results.
The rest of the images were all single exposure with a pocket camera such as an Sony RX100. They were either handheld or the camera was placed on a wall/fence to stop blue/shake for the images that were slightly longer exposures.

I have an RX100 (mark 1) which my shots are taken with, these little Sonys seem to manage low light surprisingly well (better than my previous Panasonic M4/3 camera with the kit lens), the DRO dynamic range optimisation works well, I've never felt the need to try the HDR (stacking) mode.
I’ve used the RX100 for years now. I had a Mk1 then a Mk3. They never ceased to amaze me at the way they could capture such clean, sharp images at night.Sadly I broke my RX100 Mk3 last year, but now have a Ricoh GRIII which is even better, surprisingly.

Mines well battered with use, been fixed twice (ribbon cable) myself, but I really value how easy it is to carry around and quick to use and I don't fret if its gets damp or dirt/sand as I've well had my moneys worth out of it.Sadly I broke my RX100 Mk3 last year, but now have a Ricoh GRIII which is even better, surprisingly.

I was the same. My RX travelled the word with me just stuffed in my pocket or bag. I wasn't too upset when I broke it because I had been all over the place with it and taken thousands of shots. It still sold as broken for decent money on eBay ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
They always say the best camera is the one you have with you, which is why I only bother with pocket cameras these days. I found myself disinterested in using anything larger and sold all my full-frame mirrorless stuff. I just wasn't using it.
My images above of London were just taken while I was out and about for work etc. Just pull the camera out my coat pocket and take a snap. I always shoot RAW as well.
A decent shot from an RX100 or a Ricoh GRIII is easily good enough to have printed huge and hung on your living room wall.
Some great photos on here, I must try to get out over winter and take some. I had a go a few years back, unfortunately the Christmas lights in the local town aren't that impressive when photographed. I remember the evening I took this shot - I'd just lost the tripod adapter for the camera, so I had to take it while holding it on the top. Took months to get a replacement too. The shots over the rooftops were much more interesting, but all slightly blurred.

One with with the quite frankly amazing Fuji GFX (it was a loan camera!!) - dynamic range from a single shot just amazing, the fact that the clock is not blown out is just staggering
