That was how the 88 started life, wasn't it?

(Hell of a machine, the JP - we were only lucky they brought them and the other machines out in small numbers late in the war and with inadequate fuel)

I'd say that that was a Panther rather than the derivative which would make the gun a 75 (which was arguably a better gun than the Tiger's 88 - though not as good as the Tiger II's 88)

It's a Jagdpanther (tank-destroyer version of the Panther), which sported an 88/L71 - the long-barrel high-velocity update to the Tiger-1 gun, and the same as fitted to the Tiger II and Elefant.

The Panther and the JP were arguably the most worrying of all the Wehrmacht armour (when they worked / didn't run out of fuel, at least) - more mobility than the Tiger and the heavier tank destroyers, but with armour enough to defeat most Allied guns.
