Dji Phantom UAVs

Rumour has it that Maplin are getting stock in over the next few weeks. If you phone them they'll be able to reserve one, but it doesn't show up on the website. That's according to a reddit post that appeared yesterday.
I'm keen to see one and try one. I have a feeble Micro Drone at the moment and am on the verge of giving into the temptation to buy a proper camera drone. The Mavic isn't cheap, but that convenience is sooooo appealing. I've been looking at the P3A, P3P, P4 and Mavic the last couple of weeks, ranging from £699 for a P3A up to £1359 for a Mavic Fly More pack. I'm sure the P3A is all the drone I'd ever need but I also reckon I wouldn't use it half as much as a Mavic simply due to that compact size.

TBH It's more the battery charging, latest software/firmware updates, updating compass, lack of wind/rain, somewhere interesting (and legal) to fly and the faff that will probably limit you, not a craft half the size. Though half the size is good!I'm keen to see one and try one. I have a feeble Micro Drone at the moment and am on the verge of giving into the temptation to buy a proper camera drone. But yes, the rest is still a faff!

I'm itching to upgrade my P3S to the P4P+ so keen to hear your thoughts
I'd wait till after CES. There are likely to be a whole bunch of new drones and camera tech announced by other manufacturers, alongside price changes post Christmas, so anything you buy now could be bought either cheaper or better later in January. Tuna said:

I have a P3A and initially I found the form factor of the Mavic very appealing as you could take it along just in case. However I find the things that stop me flying are:I'm keen to see one and try one. 1) Getting the right weather at the right time
2) Flying it away from the public/buildings etc
3) Having an interesting flying mission
Size is very rarely an issue.
In respect of an interesting flying mission I've found the P3A and the customisations available for it mean I fly it more than I would a Mavic. Specifically long range FPV and the ability to use it with goggles.
I have been in quite a dilema about getting a drone for some time and been wanting the Mavic but not prepared to wait. I then looked at the P4 Pro but it was more than I wanted to pay and ultimately I love the idea of the smaller size of the Mavic. I have ended up buying just the P4 non pro at a really good price and think i'll hold off now for the next iteration of the Mavic!
Had my first flight yesterday too, great fun, lots to learn but it completely amazes me the shots you can achieve for a few hundred quid!

I want to upgrade from my Phantom 2 V+ and I think I have reached the same conclusion - where did you get your P4 from for a decent price - best I have found is £831 for an official DJI open box/refurb?Had my first flight yesterday too, great fun, lots to learn but it completely amazes me the shots you can achieve for a few hundred quid!

I paid £830 for a brand new sealed one from ebay, i took a bit of a punt and paid the guy direct through paypal and not via ebay to save him the sellers fees which meant we could come to a readonable agreement. Fortunately the guy was genuine and it all paid off!
I did however notice one in Westbury (where I filmed the above) and it was an unwanted prize or something from maplins. The guy had it up for £750 which is an absolute steal but it was a bit too late for me. Have a look it may be available still.

Has anyone had a Mavic Pro arrive from Amazon or is DJI still the only place to have actually fulfilled orders? Had mine on order since late November I think, don't want to cancel as it's locked in at the lower price but also could be using it for projects, tempted to just order a P4 Pro but it's a fair whack more, plus CES being this week...
I have a quick question regarding the active track features and using them in the UK. With the drone-code rule of keeping a distance of 50m to people and buildings, does this render using this feature redundant in the UK?
For example, some colleagues are doing a long(ish) distance charity cycle later in the year and I'd consider doing some drone video of this, but from my reading of the rules I'd be limited to shots from quite a distance and nothing like a 'chase cam' shot.
Is this right?
