Often seen images of fly's blowing bubbles, but never one of a hoverfly taking a crap before!

Looks like a nice body and lens combo DD.
Have you considered removing the people on the beach in the background of the first one?
I would love to know how a simpler sweep of the sand would look as a backdrop to the boat.
Likewise the house roofs in the second. Maybe raise the grass line a bit to cover them? Whatever is easiest editing wise. I'd be tempted to do something with the dinghy and the person walking past it on the right as well.
Don't get me wrong - they are perfectly good shots but something just stood out from them (for me) to suggest the changes mentioned. I think it might be a case of a bit less is more - but I could well be wrong.

Cheers DD!I like that - excellent editing work.
Now, to me that makes a whole lot of difference to the immediate visual impact of the shot.
The sweeping unbroken line of sand together with the mooring ropes, leads the eye to the boat more cleanly. Minimalism that suits the basic simplicity of the scene, notably the very clear sky and the beach in general.
But my opinion is not important 'cos it's your image. What do you think?

Cannae see it, just a blank area with 'This photo is unavailable'. When I click on it I'm almost sure it's bringing me back to the one Mike re-posted, not the original. Spot the difference - do you think one is better then the other?
I can see it still because it in my cache but the original is no longer showing in the Flickr stream. The (1) after the name fooled me!
It also makes most of my comments a little irrelevant - indeed probably puzzling.
Suffice to say the sweeping line of sand from the left of the image had a few people on it in the far distance. Just enough to break up the effect of the sweep (IMO). They are now gone.

Cheers - yes I do prefer it. The editing was a bit of a faff but worth it I think I like that - excellent editing work.

I tend not to keep two versions of pics on my Flickr stream so just replaced the old one.

So glad you like it. I would have felt terrible if you did the work and hated the result!I tend not to keep two versions of pics on my Flickr stream so just replaced the old one.
The second of the original images could be a lot more effort. The more I look at it the more I see to do to make it more minimalist.
I'm not sure I would take it on without some extreme Photoshop skills - which I certainly don't have.

...do you think one is better than the other?
I think the first one was the photographic equivalent of an MG Metro (nice car, I had one and would have another if I could find one in good enough condition) the second one, to continue the comparison, would be the equivalent of a 6R4.singlecoil said:
