I would not claim to be anything anywhere close to an expert viewer of aviation shots but I can't recall see anything before quite like the spinning blades in top image. My favourite image from the three days I think, one I'm quite proud of for some reason as well..

And the control of DR, especially in the blacks of the guy's wet suit (if that is what it is), in the second image is great. It looks like high speed and flash - but is it? Really good stuff.
What do the crews think?
Thanks GC :-)
No flash, my only regret is not getting a flashgun especially for the cockpit shots. Think the diffused light helped :-)
Thanks for the feedback guys!
As for the crews, I think they're pretty pleased with them. They saw what I was shooting and didn't expect the images to come out like this which must be good, waiting to hear if they'll be used in an article though so fingers crossed!

I think its probably been done before, just a 30 sec exposure to get the movement as they ran the blades up to remove excess water. Although I can't recall seeing a photo like it were they are spraying water on it as well, might be why its my favourite I guess! How would a Hummer fare?
Beyond that I guess you would need either something armoured or a large truck - the sort with an engine poking out at the front and bull-bars.
Some years back a Traffic Officer on another forum posted a photo of his Volvo 'Office' Patrol Car after an incident with a deer in the middle of the night. Good job he was not on a motorbike.

30 seconds - how did you get the windsock to stay still? No flash, my only regret is not getting a flashgun especially for the cockpit shots. Think the diffused light helped :-)

Good luck with the article. I know these things can be quite hit and miss but when it gets to publication needs but they certainly look well above 'good enough to print' level to my eyes.

Many thanks, should find out rather soon. Either way its been another good opportunity and I look forward to returning next year
Been a while since I have posted as I appear to have got worse than better at this game! However, my little munchkins continue to be good subject matter and now they are two and a bit Christmas has suddenly taken on meaning and the excitement is palpable...
