This forum is dangerous, my sony t1 is great for taking down the pub of if its clear blue sky and sunny , it just doesnt caut it when its dark or you have to yuse a flash.
I have been looking for an alternative,
The D70 seemes to be getting good reviews on here or is the 300d a better bet
I have seen the d70 with an 18-70 lense for £749 with £100 cashback, is this good value? what is the lense like, this will be the first time iv used a slr camera, it maily going to be for sports shots, cycling motor racing etc.
i will throw this open to the forum find me a good digital slr for around the £600-£ 700 budget and a good book on how to use them
Thanks
WVM

WVM, I am in a similar position as you. Not yet convinced which camera to get. The best I have seen the D70 with 18-70mm lens was at Costco for £702 (in VAT) before the £100 cash back. They also have an excellent returns policy.
Was trying to hold off until the Canon 350's (with 18-55mm)hit the street to see 1) if it was in the same price range & 2) to see if the prices of the competion fell.
Been doing a bit of searching tonight and Amazon have this camera with lens listed at £800, as do www.warehouseexpress.com. www.ebuyer.com have it listed at £704. Whilst this is the best price, it may well be a grey import. I have used them before and they are a british based company so there are no hidden costs. This is still £100 more than the D70 and, at this point, I am just not sure that it's worth the extra dosh.
Biggest problem is stopping myself from walking into Costco tomorrow with £700 and coming out the otherside with the cash still in my wallet
i have seen the same thing im very tempted to go to costco tomorrow and buy the camera

Nice one WVM! If you've has an SLR before it's straightforward; if not, you have some work to do Whatever, do try to get through the manual.
