May Challenge - On The Edge
Discussion
The theme for the May Challenge is - "On The Edge". Hopefully we will have a few different takes on the title.
Good luck!
And a reminder of the rules,
- The shot MUST be taken this month, with the closing date being midnight on the 31st of May.
- The exif must be posted with your shot.
- Keep the images posted to a decent size please, 1024px wide max.
- I'll choose the winner this month (with the winner choosing the theme for next month, then deciding who should win that months)
- The Challenge for next month should be generic, as not everyone has access to zoom, macro, specialist lenses. It should be shots that everyone is capable of achieving with the bare essentials.
Good luck!

Time to declare the winner!! I thought I'd give brief (personal) feedback on the pictures and the brief. Remember, this is only my personal opinion

Nice picture and great colours. I think the composition could be more interesting, maybe cut off the empty space below the leaf?

I think the vignetting may be a bit strong for this image and that it would benefit if that effect was more circular. I really like the curves on the sail and think that it would be an interesting subject if taken up close with an ultra-wide angle lens.

Good panning technique! Very clear back and nice blurred background. I'm not sure it fits the brief well though as he looks very much in control of the bike.

I quite like the simplicity of this picture, but think it needs something to make it 'pop' a bit more. Again, I don't think this fits the brief of 'on the edge' as nothing is 'on the edge'.

I thought this was a knife at first! A nice, simple abstract picture. Again I'm not sure it fits the brief, but I do like it...

I like this picture. Nice and simple and looks good B&W. Maybe it would benefit from having extra space at the bottom and having more of the wall in shot to make the subject higher up and more 'on the edge'.

The only landscape! I wasn't sure I first saw the picture, but the more I look at it, the more it draws me in. One critism is that I think the picture would benefit from les sky and more forground - although you'd probably have to get by the trees to make that shot work!!!
That's all pictures. So without further delay, here are my top three:

Wow, thanks Ollerton57! Funny, i liked the space under the bug in my shot, i thought it emphasised the fact it was "on the edge" .
I'd take my critique with a rather large bucket full of salt! I only started photography at the beginning of this year and do not have the experience for anyone to take me seriously Well done though!

Looking back I agree with your comments on the vignetting.
If I were to process the shot again I would probably use something like a layer/multiply to get more contrast on the darker areas, and get more of the sail in shot.
Thanks for the feedback
No problem. Thanks for the response. If I were to process the shot again I would probably use something like a layer/multiply to get more contrast on the darker areas, and get more of the sail in shot.
Thanks for the feedback
The photo forum has turned into a great place for amazing photo's, but I don't think enough feedback is given, hence my feedback on every entry, so I'm glad someone appreciated it
Try processing the shot again and posting it. I'd be interested in seeing the new result!!
