Looking good. You’re getting there.
Is it me or is the plenum on round the wrong way? Inlet should go to nearside.
Like this wink

Can’t get away with anything on here.

Injectors back in now. Looking better than it did when I removed the plenum. Dizzy next, then plenum.

Plenum installed and all piped up, air filter box cleaned up and internal plate rivets changed to stainless. Getting closer.

All engine bay electrics re-taped, connected and tie wrapped to chassis. New earth straps and battery cables installed. Radiator cleaned up ready for re-installation. Bearing type upgrade to steering column needed adapter plate making to suit the S1.

Need to get a new heater matrix push/pull cable as old one seized.

Anyone come up with a good alternative for the gearstick rubber gaiter, can’t find anything on internet that looks like it might do the job.

Just have to connect the heater matrix hoses, fill with fluids and oils then give her a whirl. Before and after photo of the engine bay.

Thanks for the tips.

Changed the rivets to stainless ones on the filter, some had come off already and the rest on their way out.

With regards the metering intake which I think you’re referring to (as circled below). There was a couple of splits that have been glued, these are where the wide Miklar clamps are so hopefully well supported now. I agree the support of the hose is a bit non existent, but the fuel lines provide some support and seem rigid.

Still got to sort the gearstick gaiter, mine has definitely see better days. your solution looks like a very good get around, so thanks for the info.

The classic mini gaiter also looks like it could be a good starting point.

Racetech did have some manufactured (originally a Ford Sierra part)

And if you think 40 quid is a bit pricey try 15000 yen, about £90!

Racetech been out of stock for ages. These things are rarer than the indicators.

I did find a gear lever gaiter in Car Builder Solutions catalogue which has worked well for quite a few years now.
This is the only one I could find. Looks a bit chunky.

Well, the first turn of the key didn’t go to plan

Fuel pump sounds like its got gravel in it, hopefully just needs priming.

Starter motor doesn’t do anything at all. Don’t know if it was working before and stupidly didn’t test it. So that’s going to have to come off.

Keep plodding on.

Hammer to the starter didn’t do anything, neither did direct power to the tab. So removed it and took to a local guy, he tested it and solenoid not working. Took the alternator for a refurb to him as well as that probably needs a service.

Got a new fuel pump too, so hopefully next weekend we will be able to hear it splutter into life for the first time in 15 or so years.

Took the old fuel pump off today to fit the new one, which was a much smaller diameter ( ordered wrong one) , so ordered another with the exact same ref number as original.

Old one had a small hole in the body just where the fuel pipe connects, so must have been sucking air instead of drawing fuel especially as it has an additional filter after the tank now. I could see the body had a knock but hadn’t realised it was a hole. So hopefully all resolved when new pump arrives.

This is the correct pump with same ref number as the original Bosch unit.

Fitted new fuel pump, the diameter is smaller than the original, the new one was exactly the same as the one I ordered previously so added thicker rubber to the holding bracket.

Refurbed alternator back in with new original OEM spindle fitted.

My refurbished starter motor fitted back.

Engine turning but not firing, got fuel at engine, got spark at plug, hope it’s as simple as the timing being out by 180 degrees. Will need to do some reading up on it all as never tried to set up an engine before.

Fingers crossed

Got it close, just doesn’t seem to want to run. Bit of heat in the manifolds, so something igniting . Battery ran out of charge.

I’ll have to test the injectors and check compression.

Don’t know. Didn’t replace them, they are what was in the car when I got it. They looked quite good, Bosch 4 prong ones. I’ll get a set of new ones. Any recommendations???

Ok thanks. Can’t remember the last time I bought plugs. I’ll get a new coil whilst I’m at it.

As I’ve never seen the engine running my original plan was to keep as much of it original on the assumption that it did run before being unused and not to introduce too many new variables.

Some of the plugs seem dry, so I think I may have an injector issue. If I take plugs out and put some kitchen roll in the hole that should tell me if there’s fuel at each cylinder.

Is there a relay that kicks in to keep the engine running that I should check?

What does the ingnition control switch do, I have a new one of those. This box mounted in the wheel arch. ?

I can research the above, but is someone knows it would save me a little time.

Thanks
