oils like Castrol GTX Magnatec should do fine!

David Batty swears by this and will fill all Tivs that come his way with it, unless you specify differently. Seeing as he does the work for Adrian Blyth as well I wonder if all cars brought through him have Magnatec as standard?

Vodkakid,
I would expect that problem if Valvoline Racing had been used and had not been changed regularly. This oil does NOT contain additives / detergents and as such can cause blockages in the oil galleries.
I have been using this oil for 6 years and have had no problems at all. I change it regularly, i.e. 3000 miles maximum! (Which is still too long really).
I did a compression test on my engine which has quite high mileage and the compression is still perfect. One cylinder has slightly lower efficiency, (if you watch the CR gauge, the pressure in the cylinder very slowly drops after cranking, but it is nowhere near serious enough to lap the valves back in yet).

Well just to add another name in to the conversation I am running Castrol RS fully synthetic in the S2 (main reason is because a local supplier cocked the price up and charged me £10.50+vat for 4L!), I have used Magnatec in my race Mini with no problems but someone I know used to know a girl who worked for Castrol and she said it was absolute junk and never to use it! (don't know the ins and outs) it can't be that bad though as I never had a problem and they wouldn't sell it if it was really bad would they?.I have no problem using a fully synthetic oil in the S2 as on my lubrication plate in the engine bay it states fully synthetic oil should be used, unlike Ford!
