TVR S2 Wheel Refurb - Shadow Chrome
Discussion
Now I'm sure this post will probably upset the purists out there, but here are some before and after pics of my wheels which have just been powder coated.
I realise that as standard, the wheels should be diamond cut and lacquered, but after researching this method online I found a few people complaining that the finish doesn't last as long as they would have hoped. I'm not going to be washing and waxing the wheels after every drive, so I wanted something that would stand up to everyday use, and also manage being parked outside without corroding.
I decided to go for a 'shadow chrome' powder coat finish which a local bodyshop suggested. The wheels were sprayed black, and then a silver effect was sprayed over the top. I'm pretty happy with the result as they aren't too shiny, but still seem to suit the car well.
Anyway, another possibility for others thinking of going down the low maintenance route!

Nice looking wheels Jim & Rob.
When I first got my 26yr old tarnished "Seaside Slots" that had suffered the salty air of Minehead for a good few years, I set about stripping & polishing with gusto, but it seemed to me that the surface corrosion had started to go inter-granular.
I'm no metallurgist, but I thought rather than ruin both my elbows by using up all of their available grease, I would entrust them to the experts to do a proper job.
The Wheel Specialists in Manchester stripped, blasted & after heating them to drive out any moisture, powdercoated them black with "Flash Chrome" finish.
I was thrilled with the result & would heartily recommend those guys & gals at TWS.
The finish is easy maintenance, and perfect for Austin's life outside the garage.
I think that if I had opted for the diamond cut or polished finish, the corrosion would be showing it's ugly face already.
