Been a long time since I indulged in the dreaded weed. An engineers backy tin collection is a wonder of bits and bobs. Old stuff? Think my oldest tool is a tap actually. Think it is a 3/8ths BSF plug or second from 1942, date is on the side. Got a kite mark on the side and I am sure, pretty much that is, that that means its old M.O.D stock.
No work today, been for a
My favourite tool has to be a 14BA tap I've had since my apprenticeship. 14BA measures 0.039" (1mm) OD. I think I got the job of tapping those holes as the old farts I worked with did not have steady enough hands. I now know what that is about. No work today, been for a
Best bit in my Backy tin has to be a carb float needle for an Isseta Bubble car. Think there is also a set of points in there too.

I can personally vouch for the quality of Shaun's workmanship: I bought his whole restored S3C project and I am a very happy bunny. If you fancy one of his expansion tanks or a swirlpot/exp tank combo, follow the link to the thread mentioned by Phillpot, click on Shaun's name on the left margin next to his post and this will bring up his profile page. Click on "Email me" ( top right margin of his page ) and send him a PH message.
If you decide to go for it, you won't be disappointed, the welding and finished article is superb.
( I'm not on commission by the way! )
Phill/theprof, whereabouts in the country are you located? Your profile is a bit sparse. ( possibly no bad thing with current PH online security issues? )
It's just that we are an enthusiastic friendly helpful bunch on here and enjoy quite a few meets and gatherings at various venues throughout the year. It would be nice to welcome you into the fold.
Also when you get a few moments to spare, please could you update the S1 owners list wiki? It's near the top of this S Series forum. If the previous owner is on there, just swap your details for his. Thanks.

Does that mean my collection of tins might be worth more than the contents? Only perhaps if I can find a collector of Old Holborn tins, now I can identify what the smoke coming out of Dads car was!various said:
I think they are studs set in the fibreglass?
Sorry for dragging you all away from 'Baccy Tin' memory lane, but on my S2, both protruding bolts are connected with a strip of steel up in the foot well. It was a two man job to undo them properly. Maybe that's just one of the many TVR model upgrades !
Cheers Tim
Literally just come in from having my arm all the way down there, head out the drivers door feet out the passengers (nearly broke my back, drivers seat has to come out), and can feel two bolt heads just. The one towards the front of the car is loose which must the one I have already loosened. No backing bar or any type of lug or device that could be said to be a bobbin. Might have expected something like the ones that make up the door hinges, but now I think about it, why woud you. You fix it inplace and forget about it for the next ten years. Think it must be a standard nut and bolt staright through. Cant wait to try and get my head where my feet should be!
