Took her for a spin - ended up in a ditch
Discussion
I was having such a great time - nice spring breeze, a bit of sun, top down motoring was about to go home but thought 'No, let's have another hour in my newly polished S3.'
A minute later was about to overtake a Golf on a long straight and noticed a beemer speeding out of a dip towards me. Ducked back in behind Golf and when pressing the brakes noticed the back end starting to slip in to the middle of the road. Managed to stop that. Got prepared for the snap back but then hit some mud, next thing back end went again, headed straight across the other side of the road, hit the curb full on and ended up with my near-side in a ditch, facing the wrong way.
Bonnet is a real mess as that took the brunt of the curb. Exhaust has bent up on oneside due to the ditch, hoping chassis is okay. (Seemed to steer and brake straight once at the garage).
Ditch was full of logs, branches and other people's lights and wipers! Must be a black spot for accidents. Fortunately, didn't scratch rest of car. Sooooo bloody lucky not to be hit by an oncoming car.
Managed to get out pretty much unscathed. Well, that's one of my nine lives gone

Bloody hell!! That was in Hockley Heath wasnt it?? I past you in a red VXR220 as you were talking/pointing to the BiB. I wondered how you got there... Did you spin 180?? And isnt there a canal the other side of that fence??!!
At least you are in one piece... But what a bummer on a sunny dry day

Yep, that was me in Hockley Heath. Was heading towards Lapworth and Warwick, car eventually span and hit curb head on then span around to face Hockley fter hitting curb.
Yes, remember the VX220 - looked lovely by the way!
As for split seconds changing your life, you'd better believe it. Been driving for almost 20 years and this is my first accident. I do about 40k per year and am normally pretty sensible. Thank god I didn't overtake when I'd planned to or I would have been in a big accident.
Take it easy guys and remember even the smaller Tivs can be beasts.

Glad your ok...
Ain't it always the way? Accidents hardly ever happen when your just driving, its when you make a conscious decision to go another route, or stay out for an hour when it'll happen...
Still, keep us posted on the Tiv Surgery
Look forward to seeing it at a meet sometime

What a real bummer... Glad to hear that you are OK..
I've been out this afternoon.. Having a real blast. to say the least.
Followed through some lanes by an Elise couldn't shake him round the bends left him on the straights..
Came to a T junction turning right, gave it big welly back end gone, sideways, big grin, then BANG...
Exhaust let go...!
No damage or harm just the joint from the down pipes...
The look on the Elise driver's face was a picture.
After I had almost deposited my lunch in my trousers. I laughed stopped, had a quick 1 to 1 with the Elise driver and limped my way home.
I hope you get it sorted and are back soon.
Dave

What happened to you then Spivvy?
Bad luck with the exhaust Dave did u ground it or something?
pulling off from a junction couldn't have been doing more than 20mph back end starts twicthing and then 180'd road very narrow went backwards into a hedge and the front wipped round and got a smack also
Thanks Pies and Spivvy - pictures look real lame. Garage reckon they can sort it. I asked that they replace the bonnet (which is the S1 type) with an S3C type or just one with spotlights but they are saying that they don't know if they can still get them.
I've e-mailed them Tet Mouldings website. Did you get a new bonnet Spivvy?

Mate - so sorry to hear about your S3, but glad you are OK. I know exactly how you feel, having scared myself silly when I lost it, also on a patch of mud. I was lucky to get away with it - I wish you could have been as fortunate. Hope it gets mended soon. I guess it's a testament to the strength of the chassis that you are OK.

Glad you are ok, could have been nasty..
Try Ewelme if you get no joy with Tet; spoke to them a couple of weeks ago and they thought it would be no problem. Hope my S will go in for a new bonnet in the next week or so..
