Me again.........Droopy problems...

Hi folks,
My passenger door has ceased to open and shut without a hoofing great shove, followed by a grating noise that goes right through me as the door is chewing at the body.

It used to be stiff, but I never opened it. However now I am using it daily for the school run etc I dread opening it so much so that my son leaps over the door, or through the window on the odd occasion the roof is up.

Bit embarrasing to say the least and I am assuming it needs to be lifted up quite a lot, any ideas?

I think you will need to have a close look at the state of the hinges. If you're really really lucky the hinges are just badly worn and have allowed the door to sag so far that it fouls the door opening. The hinges are adjustable. It's a pig of a job, but better than the alternative. Which is that one of the hinges has seized through lack of use and eventually got so stiff that the bobbin has been ripped out of the bodywork when you forced the door open and closed. In this case you will need to take the door off (which could be a major exercise in its own right since the hinge bolt will still be seized into the bobbin, you may end up having to hacksaw through the hinge bolt at the gap between the body and the door) and then refurbish the hinge and reattach the bobbin.

Thanks folks, I have a horrible feeling the hinge has snapped off due to the nasty noises and fact it won't open freely past approximately 2 inches. Bugger bugger bugger

I shall look into it, and at it, then probably shut it and hope it will go away.

I've just spent a worthwhile weekend sorting out my sagging doors. TVR car parts supplied a pair of door hinge bushes for £3 each (one per door). Once I'd managed to unsieize the bolts the job was fiddly but not too hard. I found that a couple of 1.5cm diam washers between the sill and hinge bush helped to raise up the door and reduced play still further. The result: nice solid swinging doors, no grating on the sills and less rattling noise! maybe time to invest in some of those shiny kick plates (although at 60 quid they are a bit steep).

Still haven't done my passenger door, but spent the whole day trying to align my bonnet. It still doesn't look right.
