Chaps

Any thoughts on this one then, how much weight do you think could be lost if I was to strip out as much as possible from my old S1, so that it would have a more favourable power/weight ratio ??
I have an old S1 which I haven't bothered selling since getting the chim. and fancy striping it and just using it as a track day car.

I would be willing to remove anything but the dash, as it would be a pain, but things like carpet door panels, fitting race seats to reduce weight etc, would be no prob's.

Any thoughts ??

Totally agree with your comments, just thought I would throw it in for disscusion.

I intent to fit a full cage If I can find someone to make It, which will probably put the weight back in anyway.

But a lighter S should be a better S in my book !!

we'll see.

I'm glad that this has become an interesting thread. The stripping will start shortly

Does anyone know of a cheap source for light, cheap, waterproof racing seats ?? and good harness's ?

I still haven't found a full cage yet either

Thanks for the advice so far.

No question about getting a cage made up by just anyone, I would rather just have a proper rear roll bar than make a mock up full cage, I understand that an official full cage has been made for an S at some point, but haven't had the time to investigate who made it yet.

On the subject of wheels, If the wheels were changed for wider ones e.g. 8x15, and you fitted lower profile tyres which then intentionally decreased the rolling dia. I know this would change the gearing, but do you think that it would significantly change the 0-60 and top speed ??

If so I could live with a drop in top speed on most tracks ( never get a straight long enough !!) if I could get better acceleration through the lower gears.

Just a thought.

O'dear I'm back again !!

OK so where's the best place to get a light weight gell battery from and how much am I going to pay for this huge weight saving??
I need a new battery for this project as the S has been sat in the garage for two years doing nothing and the battery is about dead, so might as well get a gell one if I have to replace it.

Cheers Steve

I have had a look a rally designs website, all looks good.

I am assuming that the red top 20 is the model to go for ?? with regards to the 2.8 S1

Many Thanks.
