How about a re-run of the fabulous roads up to the north and beyond that we did a couple of years ago?

same formula, meet at mine just off the A1 early on saturday morning,

gentle run down the A1 to our stomping ground while the oil warms through...then hey-ho for the open road and our pre planned route

can we have absolutely NO DISCUSSION OF THE ROUTE AT ALL even potential routes as we really don't want anyones' day spoiled by having plod lurking.

The route is one that TVRBob and I know pretty well, and will be distributed to members that we know either both of us or individually to avoid anyone we don't know/like/trust attending. we are trying to avoid any dickhead drivers except the ones we know and love (i.e me )

we're looking at a good combination of twisties and fast cruising roads so as to be suitable for all types of car, there will be maps given out with waypoints and meeting places at strategic point so no one feels the need to keep up with the pack...although I fully expect there to be a bit of friendly rivalry

As an aside, there will be a few of us going in to newcastle on the saturday night for a feew convivial drinks probably starting at the head of steam for some good ales and lagers but if there is enough interest then we can get a restaurant booked for something at least initially a bit more subdued (before we all go to the carling academy )

so, how about it?

When you looking to do this?

I'm looking into selling the Skyline but will probably still have it in September.

Also what is the score on the beer front?

Would be up for a Friday meet in Newcastle as I'm usually on the drink from about 2pm on a Friday anyway. Working the the Quayside can be a right pain

I was thinking about doing the beer after the event that way we are all sober and compos mentis for a good drive, we can get up early to meet up so the roads are clearer and crucially, we can discuss the days derring-do's in the pub afterwards...so it's saturday night for the beer I reckon

plus I think that asking people to book in to a hotel, get off work on friday, go home and change and pack then drive to newcastle might be pushing it...as most the people coming would not be as lucky as we are in living in newcastle

F.A.O Everyone

there are hotels very close to where I live and they vary in price/quality, alternatively you can stay where the hell you like

I have got a good route already planned out of approximately 110 miles which will be emailed out to people nearer the time

the roads wil be suitable for every type of car (within reason )

if there are enough people then I can book a restaurant perhaps with the hard core lot then staying out with me to party (there is secure paring in central newcastle so you can drive back to yorkshire/middlesbrough wherever after the meal)

have you tried hexham? they have a few spaces according to a friend of mine plus it's dead easy as it's not exactly over populated!

just out of interest, where are you from?

I didn't live in hexham (lived in scarborough!) but I took my test in hexham as the reputation it has is one of a high pass rate. it was a piece of piss to be frank, and I was so gratified at the easy ride that I got that I didn't even spin off from the driving test centre which I had promised myself that I would do...hmm. I think I was a bit of a chav back then

You do have stripes on your current car, so its obviosuly not all out of your system

Not saying where I live on here, all I'll say is I'm using the Longbenton test centre, which is the nearest to me but I don't live there

I see, clandestine operative eh?

just so long as you don't use the gatesheed test centre, facking nazis run that place I tell thee

i'm sure there are loads more of you so please put your name down and i'll email the route and meeting point out to you

as a brief synopsis for those of you who can't be bothered to read the whole thread i'm organising a run out on saturday 16th september from newcastle in to the countryside, up to the border then back down via a different route to newcastle again.

there will be many occasions for stopping to marvel at the beauty of it all or buy some tat in the local shops, including but not limited to, a picnic/bbq lunch venue and an ice cream stop (later on in the afternoon).

I am also heading in to the toon afterwards and therefore if enough people would care to join me I will book a table at a reasonable eatery and we shall party!

there are hotels very close to where I live varying in price from £250 per night to £24.95 per night and as such i'm sure they cater for most tastes for those who want to crash out on saturday night, and for those who wish to join us for food there is plenty of secure, good quality parking in central newcastle from where you can spin off home before the beer drinking starts doon the quayside like. thumbup
