Had a drive through there on the way home a few weeks back - really is some stunning architecture, but also some down right rank crap that one wonders how on earth it got past the planners.
Hard to believe now, but in the late 70s early 80s the whole place was a bit undesirable. There were many fill ins amongst the stunning Victoriana.

We live in a '60s fill in hehe.

But, as Louis says, all that mixture is now part of the charm.

Our downstairs loo has a Victorian map of the Park as wallpaper. It doesn’t photo very well.

Hard to get the scale but it fills the whole wall.

I imagine that you have marked on it the no entry signs, speed limits and parking restrictions haven't you.

Looking up to Park Terrace from Tunnel Road over the tennis courts

58 years ago, I began my training as an Architect and I was working on the studio to the right with the 'butterfly ' roof.
I seem to remember the client was a Dr Frears ( father ? ) who drove a vintage Bentley - as you would if living in the Park. The boss's mother lived next door down.
I once went to one old house and the old lady owner had black jet ornaments throughout - a very Victorian lifestyle that had never moved on. Not unusual in those days.
Yes, it was Dr Frears, I think connected with Frears Biscuits of Leicester - in 14 Park Terrace.

Thanks 2 Smokin for the pics. A great aunt lived at 13 Park Terrace - she died in 1951, my parents also married in 1951 - and ended up being given the house as a wedding present!

A great grandmother lived at 4 Clare Valley until she died in 1939 - her husband had been the vicar at St James on Standard Hill (long gone).

I remember getting my haircut at a barbers on Maid Marion way, sixty years ago.

Not sure if I'll be back this year or next, fancy a drink at The Trip?

Weird, anybody any idea why The Park is excluded from Google street view (apart from one tiny stretch in the middle)? I'd never heard of the place and wanted a nosey around.

We live in West Bridgford and rarely go to Nottingham for an evening out. Too many students, too many wannabe thugs talking in a blackcent patois when they are from beeston innit. It’s a bit of a dump but probably better than Leicester or Derby.

It's definitely better than Leicester and Derby. It sounds like you're going to the wrong pubs and restaurants.

No we know the nice pubs and restaurants in the city centre. But the tram to get to them and generally walking round on a Friday or Saturday evening or night isn’t the most pleasant experience

Because it's private & has been registered as thus. You can do 3D though which isn't that different.

A pint of Amstel on a stained bench adjacent to rusty railings. That’s class right there.

I think last time I saw you you were dribbling into your pint of Fosters whilst sitting on a stained wooden bench adjacent to rotten wooden fencing in the vicinity of a ‘sports bar’ / cricket club laugh
Classy…. wink
