Supercar Saturday 26th Oct. Stroke assoc. Castle Combe

You'd have gone much quicker in the dry. The times tumbled in the afternoon to 60 seconds for the fastest cars. The great thing about AutoSolo and an Autotest like this is that the car doesn't really matter - it's all about the driver. People tend to improve massively during their first year of competition.

Hi Dave, Thanks for a fantastic experience!! I was the guy in that BMW diesel estate... Wish I could have hung around and had more rides with you - and I think there could have been an epic battle of the unsuitable cars with my mate in the Alfa 159 who wouldn't let it lie!!! I wonder what time I could have done later in the dry.... See you next year!!
Hi Ian,No worries, glad you enjoyed it, I have to say the Beemer was amazing considering the size and weight of it. You and Tim were pretty close in the end hopefully you can resume the bragging rights next year...! To give you an idea I knocked 12 seconds off my wet time once it dried out and the times tumbled in the afternoon.
Cheers
Dave
I went shopping in Bristol then popped into the Salutation Inn at the Gibb, just down the road from Coombe.
Que several supercars go past...the conversation then went along the line of - wow GT3RS, wow Exige V6, wow two NSX's! I took me about an hour to drink my pint after that.
This is a great cause and well done to all who attended and all those who drove. I'll definitely be there next year.

Thanks for the helpful advice and comments to D_G and Andy Laurence.... See you there next year - Just to make it a challenge I'll bring the Touareg
Errrr, when I said the car doesn't matter, I meant within reason.... I bet you'd have a ball in a Touareg though and you could see the cones coming a mile off from up there!

Jimster - if you were driving the yellow classic mini, I was the 6'5" Leviathan that squeezed in to be slid around by you in the early rain.... Epic drive!! I always recommend anyone to go in the minis as they are such a rush and probably the biggest expectation destroyer!!
Yes that's me, I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's a shame I did't get any try runs in so I could put the slicks on and wind the boost up!Whilst I realise you're kidding, it's worth pointing out that most AutoSolo events ban super-sticky tyres. That was on cost grounds, although I found that R888s cost twice as much and lasted twice as long as the T1Rs. It was a hot topic of conversation in 2008/2009 as half the runners were using stickies and half were on 1A road rubber. The difference in performance was massive - D_G ran half the event on road rubber and half on stickies at Abingdon (2008?) to prove the point. I blew my engine with oil surge that day ... another reason they were banned. We now have a level playing field where the level of preparation to compete is simply to remove objects floating around in the car. Anyone can win in practically any car - my first class win came in my wife's 1100cc Clio.
Received the autosolo results through today - many thanks for that I did wonder how the leader board was stacking up after I left so appreciate the info.
Currently sourcing anew power steering hose, might help some what
Thanks for a good time again and it was nice to meet Dave, Andrew and every one else who made it happen!

It's possible to enjoy more time with these people who enjoy the same stuff you do, like driving in Autosolos and it's really, really easy to do! Just join your local club and be a motorsport competitor. If you live in Bristol the choice is simple, Bristol Motor Club. You can find more info at: http://www.bristolmc.org.uk/Noviceguide/getting_st...If you live elsewhere, find a list of clubs on the MSA website here: http://www.msauk.org/custom/asp/splash/started.asp...
Click on the 'Find A Club' tab. Simples. Anything you don't know is quickly filled in by helpful club members who want you along to compete with!

I just wish I'd turned up to Combe on Saturday and not Sunday...
Well, we did try to give everyone a clue by calling the event Supercar Saturday We will be back for your 20th Anniversary next year - with the continued generous support of drivers, volunteer helpers and the many hundreds who turn up to get a fantastic ride and donate to the Stroke Association. www.stroke.org.uk
I hope you can join us next year
We will be inviting Bristol MC back for next year's event because they are great people, entertained plenty of folks on Saturday and generated a terrific donation to the Stroke Association. Great job from all their team again this year.
Meanwhile, join their club and then register for the SW Autosolo Championship here: http://www.aswmc.org.uk/autosolo.html Bristol MC now run their events in Castle Combe paddock and you know how to find that. You just need to get the right day....
