Don't take this as gospel, but a bit of Googling...

For the 2012 event Castle Combe stated that "Normal passenger ride terms + conditions will apply."

And from elsewhere on their site, those terms are:

Any passenger must be over 16 years or 5’2” and seated in the front passenger seat. No rear passengers allowed.

I think it might depend on the car?

I'm sure my boss' son has been out before in previous years and he would have been under 16.

Just to put a straight edge on under 16 rides, all based on common sense and safety in appropriate proportions...

  • Circuit rides, child should be 11 or older, must have a helmet that fits (we have down to XS size on free loan but you're welcome to bring your own full face helmet), must be signed on by parent or guardian, must fit in seat and belts safely. Finally, the child must be clearly happy with the idea. Parent is welcome in the garage with child going into car. We must agree a 'slow down' signal between child and driver.
  • Autosolo, runs under MSA motorsport permit and rules. All participants must be over 14. I'm not sure about rides with the Autosolo Stig as this is not competing in the event. Please check with the Bristol Motor Club folks at the event.
We've been out to Combe this afternoon and everything is looking good and set up ready. Except any marking out of parking pitches. We're back there at 7am tomorrow so will see what materials we can scrounge up to do this.

Anyone fancy a convoy up. We're setting off from Bridgwater around 8.00am and stopping at the WSM Morrisons at 8.30am.

Cheers.

Just got back from a morning at Castle Combe. Some great cars there, including the Ferrari 250 and none of them were hanging about.

Watching the drift boys going sideways down the straights was crazy and I think those that paid for rides in those will never forget the experience.

I had a great ride in Neil Garners TVR Chimaera GT and was blown away. I have my own a Chimaera and it's nothing like his Chim. We went past everything. Acceleration was amazing but the braking and cornering was something else.

Anyway, a great day and a great charity (I lost my nan to a stroke 2 weeks ago). Well done to the organisers and all those who drove their cars to make the day.

I have to say that was a really good day!

I spent the morning being entertained by some cracking cars on track and then the avro saw an attack on the autosolo course. Shame my power steering gave up on the first corner - it felt like a substitute for a session down the gym, I was bloody knackered after 3 runs! Now off to fix that and my speedo which kindly packed up as well - all in the name of grass roots motorsport hey!

Many Thanks to the organisers, car owners, Bristol motor club and all else who made the day happen bonus Kudos to you all biggrin

What a fantastic event!
I managed to escape to Castle Combe for a couple of hours and thoroughly enjoyed it - top marks to the organisers and all those who gave up their time and the use of their fabulous cars to support a very worthy charity.
The 250GT Lusso was achingly beautiful - and it was certainly being used with some enthusiasm! A car that is worth well over 1/2-million quid being used as Enzo intended - just fantastic.
Aside from the 250GT, there was an eclectic mix of machinery out on the circuit. The V12 Vantage sounded very nice!
Thankfully the rain eased about lunchtime and the circuit gradually dried out, prompting some higher speeds too.
Well done to you all!

I really enjoyed this year. It's a great chance to get a passenger ride or a closer look at something you might like to own one day. And a lot that most of us will never own.
The highlight of the day for me was getting a passenger ride in Mark's MGB V8 at the 4.00pm lucky dip.
I have never in my time marvelled at the abilities of, or been so completely traumatised in a car as I was in this. At one point I think it bent the fabric of space and allowed us to travel faster than light.
Radicals aside. That car is a ####ing space ship.

Thanks to everyone who organised and supported this event I know my friends and I had a great time.

Cheers.

I had a great day today, I hope the passengers I took out had good fun. I found the track really greasy, but managed to keep it on the black stuff (only just!!) It's a shame I had to end my runs early due to my crank thrust washers failing causing engine to stall when clutch was pressed. I could deal with this at first, but when It started happening coming over avon rise locking up the front wheels I thought it was too dangerous to continue.
I took lots of incar video, I'll try to get online later. Did anyone get any photo's video of me going around (yellow mini).

Cheers

I had a cracking time too. Absolutely zonked now. Must have done 50 or 60 laps.

Great to meet so many PHers there. Apologies to the chap I took out in the first session - pussy footing around getting to grips with the circuit and the damp was a bit tame. Conditions were great later in the afternoon with a dry track, the sun coming out and everyone really giving it large.

Ted - cheers for the pasenger ride, think it may have been me that went out early with you (lovely car BTW!) and so great to meet the legend that gave us the forum we all get so much enjoyment from!

I spent a small fortune today (all for a good cause!) but from arriving to leaving barely spent any time outside of a car or the "waiting room"

250 GT Lusso (such commitment in a classic car)

Saxo VTS with Anthony Reid at the wheel (a true master, cant believe more didnt take the opportunity to get out with him)

White Radical - the only car that came close to me needing a change of underwear - sir, if you readt this I'm sorry I forget your name but I believe that is the best passenger ride of my life (so far :-)!

Neil(?) in the supercharged E46 M3 - superb car, very smooth and just so planted (time for me to start some mods, per chance?)

200SX (Red) drifter - mental fun - my ride was a standard set of laps, but with a smidging of drift thrown in for good measure - really good fun

Many, many thanks to Richard and his whole team for organising such a fantastic event that always rounds off a year of PH meets very well - I hope the charity has made a tidy sum from today!

That mini looked awesome and traction can't be easy when the power comes in. Easily the best car from a spectators view

Well must say I had a brilliant time. Hope everyone enjoyed their passenger rides with me as much as I did driving !
Rather slippery in the morning but improved dramatically during the day.

This is such a great way of fundraising for a key charity.

Many thanks to Richard and his army of helpers throughout the day and sincerely hope
a good sum of money was raised.

Count me in for next year.

Hi Matt, good to meet you yesterday mate, thanks for the loan of the car it was good fun putting it round the course! You also sat in on the fastest lap recorded on the day too...

On behalf of Bristol Motor Club we'd like to thank you all for supporting us yesterday, I was absolutely dead by the time I got home but all the money raised and smiles around yesterday made it all so worthwhile. We will be back for sure next year.

Cheers

It was me who you'd taken out in the first session. It's understandable you didn't push, but I still enjoyed the laps. The howl of that engine, even though muted by the helmet, keeps me wanting to own a Porsche some day.

As with every year it was a great day out and I'll be there again next year. I also managed laps in:

Audi S4 Avant - awesome fun, top driver, shame you couldn't get all 500 BHP down!

Gallardo - loved it, the owner was really chatty and friendly too.

Evo 4 - the most enjoyable laps of the day. Top driver. No idea what you've done to that car, but it was unreal. When the turbo spooled up it sounded like some sort of industrial turbine.

Whatever happened to Rachel Davies and the Radical? Two years on and I still remember being a passenger in that car!

Just wanted to post to say a HUGE thank you to the Pistonheads community who turned up and supported this event – thank you to everyone who came and played a part in whatever way you could. For the drivers, who braved their beautiful cars on a soaking wet track early on and who worked throughout the day to keep providing the rides that earn the donations, thank you for your skill and your huge generosity. There would be no event without you clap

For those who turned up and donated for rides, thank you for making the effort in what looked to be rotten weather to come along and support the Stroke Association and for dipping into your pockets so generously. It’s fantastic to hear you enjoyed the experience. We try very hard to put on something out of the ordinary and it’s terrific when people ‘get it’ and enjoy themselves, especially in support of such a good cause.

It’s too early for exact figures but it is certain that donations exceeded last year’s total by around 30%, which is a big step up. A year is a long time to wait for the next event but it will be the 20th running and with your continued support we will be a great one. THANK YOU to the Pistonheads community thumbup

One last way you can help is that if you have ideas for next year which might help us do better, then do please PM me, I’m keen to hear what you have to say ears
