I know exactly who it was but am not prepared to grass anyone up.

I usually love coming to these events, I'm mad about all cars, it's great to have a chance to talk to people about theirs and and answer any questions anyone might have about mine, I'll happily let anyone sit in it, start it, rev it, whatever they want. Tonight though I just didn't need the stress of it, some people are either completely ignorant to what people's cars mean to them or they simply don't give a sh!t.
If that was my car I would be naming and shaming the person who did this. And making other owners aware that this person is not welcome at our meets in future.

I am gutted to hear this, In 8 years of pub Club I am unaware of any malicious behaviour towards car or owners, I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for this and and will happily come to you with my valeting gear to rectify and issues this may have cause (I used to be a car detailer, and worked for Ferrari doing just that, not a have a go hero).
Ive I had known about this the people would have been asked to leave, unless it was a accident, but being mindless and not taking care of their own actions is not what is needed at what should and have always been friendly get togethers.
So what happens with Pub Club now !!
Will be a massive shame not to see your wonderful car.

I think the chap with the 458 should PM Gary and tell him who it was. Then that person could be told not to show his face at Pub club again.furious

@Thekn4ck - what you describe is vandalism or criminal damage, I would suggest it appropriate for the individual involved to be prosecuted in the same way someone key'ing a car would be.

and they need to pay the bill to correct the damage they did. They should also be informed that their attendance is not welcome (and as punishment maybe made to stand behind that rat rod as it starts up!).

We should all be careful around each others P&J, at another recent event I saw a woman standing very close to a 918 to get a selfy with a large metal encrusted handbag swinging around her shoulder - she didn't do any damage (but only just missed) but it's ignorant and thoughtless at the least. Just about every car at both events will have had time, effort and funds poured into it by the owner. That deserves care and respect.

I do hope your 458 can be sorted to your satisfaction, and Gary's offer is kind but should have been unnecessary.

@Gary - thank you for organising these events, they are good fun evenings out and have had great turnouts. I will be very sad if this signals the events deathnell but I can't see how this behaviour could have been avoided whatever the event was (breakfast meets, even goodwood FOS or revival would be exposed to the same problem). I hope you find a way to continue these get togethers.

Really appreciate all the support.

I must say I don't believe that the incident was malicious/intentional, or at least I sincerely hope it wasn't. I spent the time that I was at the meet yesterday watching people barging past it knocking the wing mirrors, others virtually leaning against at, people throwing/swinging their arms around with keys in hand whilst stood right next to it etc. I watched the guy stood 6 inches away from it smoking for a good couple of minutes with his cigarette passing extremely close to the wing. I was on my way to ask him to be careful when it actually brushed against the wing at which point I thought 'okay I've had enough of this, best thing to do is leave.' You can't say anything to some people as making it apparent you're annoyed only encourages them, next thing you know one of their mates has chucked a bottle at the car.

I don't know why people feel they have to congregate around the car just to stand and drink & smoke. I can usually tell if people genuinely have an interest in cars and as always it's the ones showing no care or respect that clearly don't.

I didn't intend this to have quite the impact it has, the meets are a great thing, yesterday's just seemed to have a different feel to it, I felt that there was little point in me attending, I couldn't enjoy myself as needed to be on constant guard duty, I couldn't even look round the carpark let alone the field.

I've my detailer coming to look at the wing later in the week, it's only in the clear coat and am confident it can be put right.

Well done for keeping your cool and not causing a massive scene. I would of found it very hard to do the same. Hope your car is ok. Why cant people just have respect for other peoples p&j. Pistonheads meets have always been a pleasure to go to. Please dont let some stupid jealous idiot to stop these meets. I say pm the organiser and the person himself and make it known hes known for what he did.

TheKN4CK I know exactly how you feel, last year I had to respectively ask a member to restrain from using the roof spoiler on my car as a leaning post whilst supping his beer, made me so angry, the cheek of it. With regret, was unable to make last night, but hopefully next time. Well done Gary for your offer to help by the way

I have made the decision to calm down these meets by means of moving venue and will open a list each month that will be vetted in some way, I will not be putting details on social media for all to see, until after the meet for pictures and friendly banter to be shared, I feel going back to the good old list here will hopefully not be seen or shared by the likes of the people that have no interest in behaving and thinking about their actions.
Until I secure a new venue that I have in mind then further meets are postponed, I do take this very seriously and listen to all comments good or bad, Sam I really do hope this incident does not stop you from enjoying future meetings and hopefully see you soon.

I have to say that at a couple of times there were lots of people standing close to the front of my car and others squeezing past to get a look through the windows. I did think there was a risk of someone knocking it but assumed they would show the respect required.

I did feel there was a different atmosphere but I can't really comment having not attended one for almost 2 years. Lol

I think that's a good idea Gary

I suspect the offender wont be reading these posts at all as I cannot believe any self respecting PHer would do this. I rather suspect that the offender is one of those who tagged along through finding out about it on FB

I totally agree that this is the best way forward. Sadly, I think Facebook and the like attract the wrong sort of crowd, I feel the meets were more enjoyable before the Facebook page was set up to be honest.

Maybe you could run a list with Registration numbers on also, and not allow people who have not signed up to attend, this may give some form of accountability, although this will be difficult to police.

bring back the PH Pub Club window stickers, no sticker displayed = no entry to pub club.

These will only be given out on application and at the Pub Club organisers discression.....

Sorry to hear about the issues regarding the paintwork and not wanting to be an asshole, but as a smoker i cant see how accidentally brushing a cigarette along a panel could cause damage to the extent of a visit to the bodyshop. Dont get me wrong, im not trying to trivialise or argue the fact there is damage but how can this happen on what i assume is a well painted, and no doubt polished/waxed, car? I am genuinely intrigued, any photo's??

I would agree, when I first attended the West Meon meets, the atmosphere seemed more "enthusiast" based, this week seemed a bit more "chavvy". I'm happy to see a wide variety of cars, not just the more expensive ones, mine especially isn't expensive any way.

However there is no need for people to do burn outs when leaving, especially following the visit from the boys in blue. Not only is it dangerous, but crowds of people at the exit of the car park, mean drivers cant see up the road.

A new venue, where the grass area is better maintained would be a good idea too smile

Just my opinions. smile

I've got to agree with you on this, I've been intrigued to how much damage can be caused by a cigarette. Plenty of people smoke in cars and my bonnet has seen its fair share of cigarettes bounced across it from cars in front on the motorway and never recall seeing any damage.

Perhaps a photo would help, even one from a modern phone would give enough detail.

Got to say I'm gutted about this, although I agree with minimising the social media on it.

I disagree with the no sticker - no entry point. I can't imagine a pub would be too keen on giving us sole use and not having any other customers. I think those who are likely to be a problem aren't those who turn up in their own cars to show, but people are still free to openly use the pub. Just my 2p.

Now to have a think of some local pubs that pub club could work well at...
