Southampton to Earlsfield
Discussion
Hi all,
Posted this in the London forum, but there doesn't seem to be much action in there.
I have to go to Earlsfield for the day this Wednesday for work and will be travelling up from southampton, leaving around 6.30am.
Would i be advised to use the A3 due to the M3 roadworks, or will that be just as busy?
Thanks!

I always find A3 the quickest but at that time could take you a while to get to A3 from S/H. I guess along the A27? Once on A3, the black spots are Guildford, M25 junct & then when it goes down to 2 lanes as you come upto Tolworth....on from there is anyones guess. If it were me I'd leave an hour early & have breakfast in Earlsfield before yr meeting .You'll miss alot of the traffic at Guildford turn off & M25.Posted this in the London forum, but there doesn't seem to be much action in there.

Also, for Earlsfield, do you know the route if you come off at Tibbets corner and head right at roundabout? (its the big junction for Putney) . You can cut pass Southfields tube and miss out the bottelneck thru wandsworth
Thanks George,
I don't know the area at all to be honest!
I have to get to Burntwood Lane, and so far, Google is bringing me in from the South on Alexandra Road past Wimbledon Station, and then eventually on to Garratt Lane.
However, I assume its going to be a bit slow around that area due to station etc.

A3 is the route I'd take - the tunnel at Hindhead has really freed things up.
Sticky points would be Guildford, the A3 / M25 junction and the final stretch of the A3 itself (up to and beyond Robin Hood).
Personally, I'd leave just a bit before 6AM to try and beat the worst of at least Guildford and the M25 junction.

The route on the screen shot I attached would still work, Burntwood Lane is further past Earlsfield Station off Garret Lane.I don't know the area at all to be honest!

I think the route youve got from google takes you off the A3 earlier and takes then via Wimbledon ...and more traffic!
I'd take the route I mentioned...will be quicker! Put Withycombe Raodd in the satnav, once youve hit that then put in Burntwood Lane....should take you the right way!

Thanks again everyone, especially George
I forgot how busy the roads are these days, as it took nearly three hours to get there and not far off the same on the way back.!
However, I was ignoring the satnav on the way back as it was wanting to drag me down the A31, but I just plodded down the A3 to the A/M27.

If you do it again , I'd take the train ! Up to Waterloo then only 3 stops to earlsfield. There's loads of trains going through earlsfield as well from w/loo. I forgot how busy the roads are these days, as it took nearly three hours to get there and not far off the same on the way back.!

I would have taken the train however I had a van load of stuff I needed to take.
I had to make. Second visit so I decided to go on a Saturday.
Left at 7am and the route in was a breeze, however, I left around 1pm and the traffic getting out of earls field was horrendous!
Anyway, thanks again all and hopefully I won't need to be going back there for a while, if at all.
