Bradford Rally action - Aug 16

What would it take to get you to venture into Bradford?
Quattro, RS200, 6R4, 037, Stratos, S4 Delta, 308, WRX running live and unleashed enough for you?

It's off as far as I know. There was no timing of the cars involved so no RACMSA permit was required.
Rally Day at casttle combe runs all sorts of cars, with a range of drivers some of which are very well known, without the need for an MSA permit.
There was an event near coventry earlier this year on public roads with racing cars, again no timing involved and no MSA permit as far as I know.
The frighteners got put on the council who own the park where the event was based, the MSA got in touch with the council and regaled them with a doomsday scenario.
There are a good few events with demostration runs that happen without the need for an MSA permit. Not to mention the hundreds of motorsport events where timing is done and the organisers operate outside the control of the RACMSA.
Karting, sprinting, short oval racing, drifting, and a good many more events that don't immediately spring to mind that run without MSA permits.
The IOPD sanction some of them.
Non MSA Karting is booming, often run by tracks and kart clubs that have given up on MSA sanctioned events. Easykart, a national championship dropped the MSA this year.
The RACMSA like people to think they are the only game in town but they aren't

Well, as I said they approached our club to ask if we would 'front' the stage and get a permit for them. If the stage was to be held on public roads, then the MSA are the only game in town, because nobody else has been granted the authority by the government.Rally Day at casttle combe runs all sorts of cars, with a range of drivers some of which are very well known, without the need for an MSA permit.

Yes if it's closed public roads for a stage rally then the MSA are the only game in town.
But for motorsport that is not on closed public roads then the MSA are not the only game in town.
This event was not a special stage rally on public roads.
So a demonstration event with no timing does require an MSA permit?
Wingo.
Have you read or seen any of the publicity for this event/ the you tube video talks about cars "competing" and very naively shows several shots of rally cars with spectators standing on the course. Now either the cars were competing or they weren't if they weren't then the publicity for the event was wrong or they were and they were just trying to get round any "problems" by calling it demonstration runs (none of the pre-event publicity I have seen says anything about demonstration runs)
Yep, seen the flyer. makes no difference IMHO, the event wasn't a special stage rally, no timing.
There are caravan Rallies every weekend, that doesn't conjure up images in my mind of a V8 powered Mk2 escort dragging the remains of a caravan around a special stage!! I wasn't lucky enough to witness that spectacle back in the day.

When the event was first being discussed the plan was to run a 'stage' on public roads. I don't know if that got diluted down or not. Perhaps it did, but they were still trying to get a permit a couple of months ago.
I marshalled on a caravan rally back in the seventies, full Sutton airfield I think. Clarkson would have loved that sport

Event was always classed as a rally. We were always referred to as competitors or entrants. Entrants information stated that the regulations would be in accordance with MSA rulings and to the best of my knowledge, Bradford Council were always under the impression that it would be MSA permitted.
I understand there were issues with running competitive cars in close proximity to spectators, in particular near to the proposed location of a funfair or children's rides; and stage layouts were difficult to achieve in accordance with MSA recommendations. (I think I worded that diplomatically)
I think (IMO) the whole bang shoot will have been cancelled on H and S reasons.
