Hmm, got passed by a white Range Rover Evoque earlier today with Blues in the front grille. Didn't notice any large amount of aerials etc either and only seemed to be one person in it. Fire Brigade vehicle?
Doubt it but you never know. I've only encountered range rovers with the blues on the motorway - escorting someone to the airport. I'd guess it's special branch or something along those lines.Martin_M said:

White discovery in Edinburgh that could pull you over if he wanted to... UnmarkedDo unmarked police cars tend to have English registrations nowadays? I had always assumed a further sign its an unmarked police car was the fact it would have a local registration for the area its in, e.g. SP or ST at the beginning of the registration for Tayside/Fife area, SV or SW Aberdeen, SY Inverness way etc.

I don't think it's a guarantee, but it's a good indicator. Local cars are frequently registered in local depots from new.Prof Prolapse said:

Thanks, it's strange then as a Volvo V70, which registration started AF14, followed for a while on the A9 (just after Perth) last week and got the feeling it might have been an un-marked carDramman said:

And the other side of this is that there now seems to be an absolute abundance of SF registration cars, of all varieties around now. And not police vehicles.
If I was a cynic I would say that there was most definite a previous "holding back" of SF plates for the services to use which is no longer needed with the change to Police Scotland.

Whilst I'd agree that 99% of cop cars were SF plated, there are/were quite a few that are SJ as well, it is a bit strange most were SF as usually plates are allocated randomly by the DVLA when the cars are registered new and you do hardly see any private cars on SF but I do wonder if SF is now specially kept for "unusual" or "special" vehicles, for example I work next to Allied Vehicles in Possilpark and they have hundreds of Peugeot Partners and Experts that either get converted to wheelchair accessible vehicles or hackney taxis and every one I see begins SF, also most of the bin lorries and buses round here begin SF too, occasionally you see an ordinary car on SF but its rare.
Don't know if this really tells you much but what I took from it was procurement of vehicles is now centralised and they buy outwith the regions ie Audi's with non region plates.
It mentions Bmw ford and mitsy as partners and I havent seen a non SF plate on a one of these makes in the glasgow area it tends to be the mercs, audi and RRs that have these.

I was told that many years ago Paisley CID got a fleet of Morris Marinas for undercover work. All with sequential English number plates and aerials in places no other Marina had them.
