Indeed, check class A4.

Also ...

Stiglet : 57.80 (NCR / 1st in class)
Numptie : 57.69 (3rd in class)

I think with "hand on heart" Stan still has Record in his 911RS:-

(Record Class A6: 57.16 sec. (Stan Bernard, Porsche 911, 24/8/03))

Have to try harder !!!!!!

Great time from N'ptie though - well done

I hadn't noticed that did you get the extra point for NCR?

BTW, I've posted some (crappy) video of the event here.

Cheers,

No, 'didn't notice - otherwise 'would have taken runner-up spot in Championship!

'Like the video - I've got a crappier one but haven't worked out how to post it!

Better do some work now!

Anyone remember Stan the Clan ?

Old bloke, that was from one of the Islands, used to race at Knockhill and Ingleston on a Shoe String budget.

Why did no-one note intrest in the East Fortune event in May? Well done BrianJ for highlighting that one. I was about to post some info on that one.

It's ok reminiscing about past hill climbs guys, but for anyone who is intrested in well run trackdays, I suggest you sign up for this one in May. I acknowledge that trackdays are non competitive, and therefore may not be of intrest, but your support would be welomed to put this one on the map. Visit www.javelin-motorsport.co.uk
Anyone interested should note that due to lack of support, Colin at Javelin will cancel the event if there is not sufficient sign ups within a 2 week time frame (at the very most).

I suppose it doesn't help the cause when you google and the only thing you can find about the condition of the circuit is

The bumpy, ridge strewn concrete surface gives way to smooth tarmac in places but most of the track requires a firm grip of the steering wheel and gritting of teeth.

Given that, people are unlikely to risk paying £150 for a track day when they don't know if the surface will be any use - bit of a catch 22 I suppose, you need to let the cars on to see if the circuit is good before they will be willing to pay. Also, whats the run-off like? Anything hard to hit? Anyone got any pictures or video of the circuit?

Scotland desparately needs another track day venue - but you have to get the people in to sample it first. Maybe a half-day event at £60 per car or similar to get people interested and used to the circuit?

On a related subject, I'm supposed to be doing a trackday at Crail tomorrow (and I mean trackday - not 1/4 mile). I've no idea what the format is or anything and I don't know if I'll be able to make it (minor car problems).

Anyway, I've heard that the surface is pretty dodgy. Anyone know anything about how these events are run and what the conditions are like?

BTW - it's a privately run do but there might be spaces if anyone's interested.

On another point, CT told me that there's a 1/4 mile at Edzell this Sunday.

A quick search reveals this.

I'm signed up at the moment, went to the last one, excellent track, at 1.6 miles a little less repetitive than Knockhill, and the track has been mainly resurfaced. The odd rough bit might affect seriously race-set-up machinery, but otherwise its a hoot.

I do hope it isn't cancelled... originally they were planing two days, but now its just one.

not a fan of crail much. bit rough, plus if you make a mistake, you're in the sea! (bit of an exaggeration!) If you can up the ground clearance on your car, it's probably worth doing it.

edzell is ok, but if you're on 1/4 mile, hold to the centre of the track where the tar is grippier, especially so in the wet.

From memory, I think all the significant corners at East Fortune have been resurfaced. Any points where a drift is likely are now smooth asphalt. Some of the straights are a bit uneven, but not to the point where is is really objectionable.

Point taken about the marathon trackday, but unfortunately, Javelin is from a bit south of the border, and really need to make the event a full day. Last year, there were two Chims and a Noble representing the exotica, and I don't think there were any problems with ground clearance or stone chips. The worst part of the track is now smooth, so I would say all should be well. Even the worst parts are no worse than a B or unclassified road now.

Run off area is generally very good. As there are sections on the old runway, the track actually has a concrete runoff area in some parts. There are no banks or ditches to speak of, from memory. Certainly, if you risk your car at Knockhill, I think then East Fortune would also be ok. I found it a surprisingly technical track, given that it has none of the cambers or gradients that Knockhill has.

Basically its an airfield circuit, with the surface significantly better than Crail, even on the bad bits. The good bits - almost all corners, and some straights, are motorsport tarmac surface.

The hold a few bike race days here every year - the bike club run the circuit - so the surface has to be good enough for that.

The run-off is at worst into farm fields - only warning last year was that if you went off, don't hang about because a hot exhaust could set the crops on fire.

Numptie (and others) "iffy" in car video of Fintray Hillclimb here.

(It may take a little while - best to "save target" and make a cup of tea or similar)

On East Fortune, I picked up somewhere that the one remaining bumpy corner is now re-surfaced - really enjoyed it last year in the Noble. Sadly the Javelin day in May clashes with the Scottish Elises major bash in Aberdeenshire, at which I'm still an honorary member! - will prevent attendance by most Elises too - would be a great pity to lose the opportunity for the future.

Crail can also be fun - plenty of room to go beyond the limit on some corners - so good for practice. General view is that it also better swept of stones than before.

Does anyone have any pictures or a track layout?

Only thing putting me off is the cost of the east fortune day, £150 is very steep in comparison to the Knockhill days..
