Although not as ancient as some here, I'm old enough to remember when George St was still connected with Union St. And then cars went around the Castlegate where there were underground toilets.
George Street was never connected to Union St, The section from Schoolhill/Kirkgate to Union St was St Nicholas St (now the St Nicholas CentreDargie said:
Ok, what shop were you standing outside when Aberdeen went down Union Street with the European Cup??
I was leaning out of the first floor windows of E&Ms! Won't forget that in a hurry!
P.s. If you can't remember this happening, you're too young for this thread!

Any idea when "Posh paws" closed down in Rosemount at the end of Richmond Terrace? I drive down that road every day and it always strikes me as a complete waste of space.

Some great memories on this thread. How about......
Allans toy shop on Market street. I used to get all my Scalextric & Hornby stuff from there in the early/mid eighties. It was a fantastic place to visit as a kid/teenager.
Fine Fare at the Brig o Dee. We used to get our weekly shop there on the way to visit my Grandparents in Cults.

OK, before I get on to the main subject, I'm trying to remember the name of a tea room above what is now the Trinity Centre. As I recall, it sounded like a foreign / exotic name. Any ideas?
Eric
That place was called the Trinity Restaurant and was in the Old Trinity Trades Hall that had sat vacant after the the "incorporated Trades" moved to Holburn St/Gt Western RdEric
You accessed it the same as going up to Littlewoods Cafeteria but on that floor you went of to the right to the Cafe and straight on and up a short flight of steps into the Restaurant
if you look at the Gable end that juts out from Pizza Hut and you see the Mock Tudor Stone work, that is the Trades Hall, the tall ecclesiastic looking windows overlooking Union St are still there I think over the entrance to The Mall

Now that I remember. I moved to ABZ in 96 to start uni and I bought an ex-rental 28" TV there for £100.XR2i's and 2.8i Granada's seemed to feature quite often...
I do recall leaving Aberdeen, Market St 5 o'clock Friday night in a brand spanking new Granada that only had about 23 miles on the clock, and being in Glasgow at the top Sauchihall St in a ridiculously short & probably highly incriminating space of time.
I think Mathematically you could just about do it in the time taken and not exceed the NSL, but I was always rubbish at Maths
Q, What is the fastest car in the world?
A, A hire car
Was never truer back then
I havent been here that long.. or have i!
How about the original location for Shirlaws? before the Green.
my first student place was right behind there, on crown street... worse i didnt know they were on the green now!
There used to be a lotus dealership on Dee street. And off Rose street there was a small showroom with the odd bentley/ fezza?
I remember watching the brick chimneys at garthdee being blown up where Sainsburys is now.
