A very tentative enquiry of northern sports car owners...
Discussion
...and if the title didn't put you off:
Every year, Shieldaig (on Loch Torridon) has a fete in August. Every year we get about 900 people who wander about and look for things to do. Mostly they buy tat and throw sponges at faces and balls at coconuts, play 5 a side footie, tug-a-war and do a boat race. (check out this link to satisfy any curiosity - http://www.stevecarter.com/ansh/ansh5.htm - click on any of the Shieldaig fete links)
So, this year I'm trying to get more people here to raise money for good causes (local school, Howard Doris care home, Torridon mountain rescue etc). I am at present trying to organise helicopter rides and a pony and trap (don't ask).
And I suddenly had a thought that some of you with nice cars might like the drive out in their P&J - over to the west coast on the day for a 'sports car line up' on the sea front (on the grass in the pic below). You would then sit or stand somewhere near your car whilst people look and coo, and you would answer daft questions like How fast does it go mate?.
All I can promise is a really warm feeling inside, a free burger, and as much single malt as you can drink whilst still able to drive (one!).
Chances of rain in August are 50%, so rag top owners need to have a roof!
I have the Aston V8, other part time loacls may participate (BIG cough - no names), and I thought if we could get a Lambo, Fezza, Mustang, Seven, porker etc etc (the usual suspects or anything rare) over - Perhaps a 18+ in total? - then we could advertise on the poster and get some more punters in.
Anyone interested, please post a note of interest here, and I'll get back via your e mail address in Spring.
Thanks people
Edit to add.. space on the front is limited, so if we get a shed load of offers, we'll have to limit to the rare or unusual. (Bang goes my Aston then )

Thanks for the fab response peeps... I knew I'd get a good one. I'll discuss with the 'fete committee' (cough) - probably at Easter, and find out how many we could fit on the seafront (we have to apply for road closures etc, so nothing's a given).
But I think it may well turn out to be a great day out
mcgus - you have mail!

(By the way, are you around this weekend? I'm fancying a last hurrah with the S2k)
I'm around, watch out for the weather though west coast seems headed for four days of snow. If you do come up - e mail me - we'll meet up for a snowball fight.Edited by Famous Graham on Wednesday 30th January 00:36

Fine by me... Some time around Easter, I'll hopefully get the go ahead and I'll then measure up the space, which will determine how many cars can comfortably fit. If there are more than that number, we'll devise some sort of overspill area so that people will at least still come (hopefully)... I have to say, if the weather is good - not only is the drive up spectacular, but the day is a lot of fun too. (There's a ceilidh the night before, usually finishes about 8 a.m. and a street gig in the evening which also goes on most of the night.
(Although I think the car thing would be arrive at 13.00 - 13.30 and leave anytime after 15.45 - so that those with long drives can use the light)
If I manage to book the helicopter chap (It's the LZ that's the issue), it'd be great for anyone with a camera!

Hi Steve
I'd be up for a run out, R34 Skyline GTR if that's any use. I'd be up for the run regardless. Any recommendations for accomodation? Probably just stop overnight too. Keep us informed.

If you check out www.shieldaig.org and then click on accommodation you'll find a bunch of B&Bs and two hotels (the first three listed B&Bs are actually in or by Shieldaig - all very good). There is also a campsite in the village - but make sure your tent is midge proof! If you go B&B - book early - the village has 600% more resedents on the weekend of the fete. Overspill places include the Applecross inn or B&B's in Lochcarron (both about 30 mins away).
As soon as I get the official 'go ahead' (April'ish') I'll e mail everyone on this thread with dates etc.
