Insurance !!!!!!!!!!
Discussion
Hi Guys
As some of you will know I have my beast up for sale www.pistonheads.com/ads/detail.asp?i=10645&sc=I7C2
The first guy to see it came all the way from Derby, loved it and offered the asking price, but he is rather upset that he has got an insurance quote for it of £480 fully comp @ 5000 per annum. He seems to think this is to expensive, and is considering letting the car go. Do you think the insurance price is over the top?

Hi Gareth...Thats what I thought! the guy has been driving a company car for years, so I think he is a bit out of touch with insurance prices.......The annoying thing is that because he came to see it first and offered the asking price, I rang the other people coming to view and told them it was sold so not to bother.
Phil,
Guess it depends on how old your buyer is and how much NCD &/or experience he has. My Insurance was £280 last year for the 400 and for the SEAC (replaced the 400) is £285 this year. 39 with >20 years driving experience. Both cars were valued at £10k as at £12k value it added £75. I Limited the mileage to 3k per annum. The issue here may be that it's a modified car which insurers often run away from! Has he tried A. Manning UK Limited (see Sprint).

I don't know how long it is since this guy bought insurance, probably paid in beads. The other half has just renewed her insurance. 40 years old, full NCB, 2.0L Mondeo, fully comp and that was £400 with no accidents or convictions. I know the classic policies are cheaper but it sounds very reasonable to me. Is the car going to be garaged? if not this can increase it some what.
Having said this tell him to give Ian Fray/Classicline a ring. They quoted me £351.00 for a Tasmin heavily modified with a 2.0L Cosworth engine etc etc. Most others wouldn't quote, the other that did quoted £500. None would quote if the car wasn't garaged overnight.

after buying my beast here in Floriduh, was dreading a quote..........BUT.....cheapest ws $185, but best, with all the other crap we have to have , was $250.
Not bad huh, oh thats for 1 year and the equiv of full comp.
Sorry havent a clue what the exchange rate is now, but I know that when we fly "HOME" next month, we going to get shafted...

Muppet - his loss. The £285 Fully Comp I pay as a 39 yr old for the 420 SEAC is for 3k/yr miles and includes TVRCC track days. If this guy has good NCD and is >40 and is being quoted so high either he's got loadsa points/history or the insurance company can't be convinced it's effectively a 450 SE!!!!
Sorry to here he's dropped out. I know a guy who was after a good Wedge - will pass your details on. He's 60+ so insurance won't be an issue.

I can't remember exactly about the power but when Mark Adams was tuneing it he had to get people to sit in the boot to keep traction on the rollers, and he said the torque was 10% short of its max at about 1700 rpm then went just over a flat line till 6000rpm. I think it was just under 300bhp and 350 ftlbs of torque, does that sound about right?
350 ftlbs of torque!!! - I'll do you a swap for my engine!! Bet you've been through a few sets of tires.
