What's happening to yours !

Are you going for a bit of Colin McRae style driving in the snow.. or perhaps a bit of TLC ..

Here is something you might like to try :

www.cetempolishing.com/

Polish those alloy wheels or Plenum chamber !

Very reasonably priced (£30) ... cheaper that a refurb of the wheels (£100 each min) ...

My car - well I'd love to drive it but the alarm has other idea's ... it's won't dosarm - so new one being fitted on Monday (Thatcham cat 1.. not cheap).

Taking the centre console to LCC to have a new veneer, also hoping to put in the new rear speakers.

Taking the cover off and driving it.....but looking at the forecast.........probably not

In the Birmingham/Solihull area over the last two days, you would only go 'Wedging' if you had a masochistic streak !!!! Sheet ice 1/2 inch thick ...the council got a lot of stick (rightly so if they'd used the wrong mix) but torrential rain followed by heavy snow then a 5 degree temp drop all in the space of an hour......a lethal combination that!

REDCAR - I had my whhels refurb'd and opted for no lacquer ... as mine is the split rim type (with bolts) what I wish I'd thought of was to :

Have the rim - unlacquered.

Have the centre - Laquered.

Cleaning around the bolts it best described as very difficult.

It would give the best of both worlds ... worth asking if it's possible.

Thanks for advise, my wheels are same as yours, I'll talk to Tony at Renowheel.
Any guidance on how far to go with suspension and brake system. Car is 1990 450SE, not been used much by previous owner in last 3 years, back discs pitted badly and suspension very very firm. Any idea's.

Back disc's pitted ... they are Jag disc's .. probably cheap as chips to replace - talk to a specialist about it ... as they may have advice. Drive shaft UJ's often ware out - so may be worth doing at the same time.

Hard suspension - are they adjustable (mine are AVO adjustable's ...) might be worth checking. The originals - KONI's are adjustable for wear - have you got these.

They normally go soft with age.

I think there koni's. Someone advised suspension may be firm due to bushes being dry and partically seized, I dont know enough about it to judge
Sorry to turn your thread.

Mine's in the w'shop - blaaaaargh!

Drove it the other day in the snow - to the w'shop. Could not believe the amount of people driving around without a nod to the conditions!

Can't go far - no tax! However the Jag airflow meter is now recalibrated and working, intend to temporarily install (read: bodge it with duct tape ) and take to a private track for road test
Have ordered a big slab of aluminium from which to machine an adapter for the intake hose; even if it turns up tomorrow I doubt I'll get much done because Julie is coming up and I haven't seen her for a fortnight...

Getting new carpet front to back on 84 280i here in the states(Florida). The woman quoted me $250 and took $50 off that for a couple of MGB seats. She's crying that she didn't charge enough and its too much work. Oh well. Hope to have it back Tuesday. I enjoy reading all the threads from the other side of the pond every day but I don't participate. You guys sound like a fun bunch.
Cheers

So you're doing a bit of bodging with Julie then? I'm sure she'll enjoy it?
