Wow, sounds a beasty.
Thinking back I have never gone to look at a car without checking insurance first. I didn't mind turning up to say I didn't like it etc but would have felt a right nana if I had to call back and say can't afford the insurance.

Last year, about this time, I bought an S.2 2.9 V6. I paid about £190 fully comp with 2000 miles limit. Then I changed to a 350i in August. Just an admin fee to change cars, so imagine how I felt when I was told that this year the 350i would be £305! Over 50% increase!
I was given a lecture about the 350i being in a higher group, and, that the poor insurers have had to pay out on claims. Poor things were loosing money...
Wish I could jack up my prices willy nilly...

What does he expect for a car with a few mods kicking out that much power! Maybe he has never owned a car of that power before which may be affecting the quotes that he is getting.

If he is struggling with that insurance quote you better keep quiet about the potential servicing and petrol bills !

My insurance is £220 fully comp second car 3000 per annum. This is for my 350i valued at £10k, I am 28 years old... Probably helps because I live in the Lakes. I agree that if I realy wanted a car I would check to see how much the insurance cost before even viewing it!

Hi all!
Im right on the verge of chopping in my sporty but boy racer Clio 16v for a wedge.
Always wanted a TVR from childhood and at 23 I cant put it off much longer.... However Fully comp on a 350i they want £1400 for 15k miles per year.
I intend to use it everyday and will burn thru petrol!!
Could opt for a lesser model I know but I want that V8 burble!!!!
Anyone got any ideas where to look for a cheaper quote?
Have fun all, Steven

Try Classicline, they seem to be the cheapest.

Directline.

£450tpft (comp was £650) on a 280i, non garaged, no mileage limit, 24yr old, 7yr NCD.

It hasn't got the same noise as a V8 but it's still very, very nice :-)

I migrated from an Astra GTE :-)

cheers
Dave

Try Adrian Flux - been with them several years now, and they seem to know their stuff.

Me, 39, no claims etc., 3 points, 390SE valued at £7K, garaged, Thatcham Class 1 fitted, 3000 miles...£240. Would have been £340 for 5K miles. That's fully comp. with protected NCD.
ClassicLine/ Ian Fray (been with them for years).

As for the Clio 24V... you may be better sticking with it for a while! It's not slow, and a Wedge will empty your piggybank faster than a woman can, if you have problems. If you do go for it and it doesn't work out, don't be one of those moaning gits who go on internet sites whining about TVRs, will you?

I shopped around a bit and got £178 for 3000 miles fully comp on mine with Classicline. They of course are just the broker, the policy is Royal Sun Alliance. Pretty fair deal I thought, but I am an oldie too and live out of town, being in the trade puts it back up though.
