Alvises?
The Six wheelers were, the tracked was GKN!
Used to scare the locals something rotten when I used to park them outside the house! laugh
They still talk about them today!

Good show! It's amazing how many Alvis fans and owners double up as TVR guys from Trevor W onwards.

I always fancied a Stalwart but the parking is as big a problem as the maintenance. Had a trip in the back of an Army one when I was five.

For those that don't know this was the inspiration behind PRW's Salamander project: http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&xhr=t&amp...

Parking is no problem, you just park were you want nobody argues with you!

Maintenance is a nightmare.
The engine is under the load floor, so if you brake down fully loaded, no access untill you have unload up to 5 tons of load err!!!!!

People get worried about the MPG on there TVR's a Stalwart fully loaded is 4 to 5 MPG if you are lucky. Less if you are swimming!

That's due to having a 7 1/2 lt straight 8 Rolls Royce petrol engine in the back!

A guy I used to work with bought and restored one. We used to laugh when he bought it into work and took up gawd know's how many spaces in the car park - actually 'laugh' was not quite the correct expression... wink

What a great thread, and what a find! Good luck with the restoration.

Slightly of topic:

Nice and warm in the winter though, lived in/on an HIAB Stalwart during the cold months, very snug.

Had many an interesting sightseeing tour around the highways and byways (and rivers) of Germany driving a Stally, all at the UK taxpayers expense of course.

Hatter - where was the car? Surrey near Gatwick? Remember there was one at a place I used to get my old Chim500 serviced near there had one in there shop just like that - I even considered buying it (but in the end it looked to much work), it was not that bad, but was about 8 years back they could have parked it outside in that time.

Chassis pic looks surprisingly good.

Good luck. Get a 5.5 RV8 in it.

I think there was a cover on it once; I'm fishing out loads of ticker tape type stuff from all over the place - clearly it wasn't up to the job.

No not near Surrey - not for many years anyway. It was near Basildon.
