We haven't ruled out anywhere except St Brides Wentlooge, Llanharry and anywhere more than 40 mins from centre of Cardiff.

First one gardens are very small albeit it's a nice house in a nice village. The second one is in the car park of the primary school.

If you're looking at the badlands (north of the A473! tongue out) this is old money class but has no garage. Plenty of land and budget to build your own lovely timber framed garage to your own spec though.

This barn conversion is very nicely done and again the opportunity to build and configure your own dream garage...

Or you could rename this the Pie and Piston and have a bit of a career change! hehe Lovely pub.

Sorry Kris, I missed these comments earlier.
I looked at both of those online in the early days of our search. Might do a drive-by of the first one.

No way could i ever be a publican. Not because I'd drink the profits as I don't really drink much at all but the hours are horrific and trying to drag on trade in that location would be one hell of a job.

Cheers Ryan. Just spent the last 5 hours driving around looking at some properties in the Valleys. some lovely places and some not so good.

I'm cancelling the viewing at the one near Port. Its a lovely property in a nice position but the driveway is near vertical and the house is on the north facing side of the valley so will be dull and dismal.

Can't find the one in Groesfaen at all. Even the locals don't recognise it.

Ryan, its this one: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Not sure I'm up for the gamble of buying at auction.

I thought just about all agents use Rightmove, Uf not I've been missing some opportunities.

That one is on the main road directly opposite the pub. There's a reason they haven't got a pic of the front... wink
We thought it was but were unsure as there's no house name on it. We'll take a look tomorrow anyway.

Changed our minds and haven't bothered viewing the Grosfaen property-cancelled the viewing.

Mrs TT is away on business for a few days so I intend to treat myself to a steak and a pint for £9.00 at the Butchers arms on Wednesday if anyone fancies joining me else I shall be sat there like Billy no mates.

St Athan now isn't ruled out banghead (I wanted that barn conversion!)

However, I thought that those house were badly fitted out from what Phil said.

Huge amount for the money though yes.

Just go in with your eyes open. If the electrics and plumbing haven't been updated, it'll cost quite a bit. Some of them look lovely, but have all sorts of horrors hidden!

I've worked in a few and know someone who lives in one currently. He was getting brown water out of the hot water taps because the iron pipe work was corroding!

It also costs a fortune for him to heat.

That street does have a very special feel about it though.
It would be at the top of our budget so if it needs lots of work it could be a bad move unless I get a job very soon.

In what way does it feel "special"?

Might have a drive down there this afternoon.

Anyone else up for a steak/drink at the butchers arms this evening? Was planning on heading there about 6.30 to 7.00ish

Well, the Officers house in St Athan is definitely flattered by the pictures. The angle shown is the back. The front is not well kempt and the whole outside looks neglected. The gate to the back garden is missing, there are several fence panels down and the rest look like they could fall at any minute, the paintwork is flaking and the whole lot looks a mess. I suspect someone has been trying to keep up with the maintenance and failing. There areanother couple that look in similar condition, others are immaculate.

The Butchers arms in Rhiwbina. Shall aim to be there about 7.00. I will be the one in the bar with the black dog.

Yes we've done the one in Penmark. In fact two.

You should have come anyway. May as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb! [waits for sheep/newcomer to Wales jokes]

Was good to meet Ryan and hope we can do the trip to show me the good roads soon.

I know it was before with another agent but decided to have a drive up here in the Tiv today: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Owner heard me and came out for a chat. Lovely spot so what's wrong with it?

Just over priced?

Been for sale at least a year at that price I think. The mind boggles that the price hasn't dropped, however that seems to be the way round this way.

It would need to be uber to command half a mill in Llanharan imo.
Agree with the above, but if it's been on the market for a while no harm in bidding low if it ticks the boxes
It was on at 499K so down £24K.

Its a bit of a tardis inside and the two main upstairs bedrooms are a fair old size.

Seems like its good for commuting into Cardiff by train too and hand for me for Tondu (for my other hobby).

If we can get past the value issue we really like it.

Would have to build the garage but the hardstandinga nd foundations are in place and there's almost an acre of land so could probably build more storege, garages or even another house if we wanted to at a later date.

Unless it's a forever house you'll struggle to sell it when the time comes.
That's my big worry although I don't think the marketing is very good (or am I trying to talk myself into this?)

Took a drive round Lisvane/LLanishen to look at a couple the other night. Didn't expect to like the areas but we did.

Anything we need to be aware of there.

Last night I left a message on the agents voicemail about the house in Cwrt Cefn. He just called back to say its sold at asking price. Nice house but needs work. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Thought we might have done a deal on that one. Oh well!

Also there are some nice properties in Peterston Super Ely - other than the daft name, is there anything we should know about it?
