Williams Motor Co
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm thinking of taking a nearly 4 hour trip to go and see a car at Williams Motor Co on Sat, but I'm worried about the rep of the dealer based on a couple of stories.
They are based on Penarth Road In Glamorgan, Cardiff.
Has anyone got any positive experiences of this place, or is it negative?
Would appreciate your feedback, as the car looks reasonably good on paper/webpage, if a little higher miles than I wanted.
Cheers,
Gary

I went there once to see a GTR. The guy there was an absolute moron who basically told me I could not afford the insurance, I told him Insurance is not an issue and that I had in fact had a 4.5 Cerbera at 18 which was then followed by a T350c by the time I was 19, he then told me "This is a super car, not a TVR". The showroom was dead that afternoon so his behaviour struck me as odd....
I liked the car TBH so stuck with him, I asked about the brakes on the GTR and when/if they had been changed, he abruptly replied "they are fine" and left it at that, (considering the cost of the GTR brakes and the mileage of the car, this was not a stupid question) at this point I had enough and simply walked out. My Girlfriend was seething with his attitude and she's usually pretty laid back!
In honesty, I wouldn't travel 45 minutes to go there again regardless of what he has in stock. For the record I believe that almost all of the cars he has are on SOR.

I've used them. My Dad lives also lives a good 4 hours away, and there was a car he was very interested in. As I live very close I agreed to view it for him.
I went unnanounced to view a car that I could clearly not afford or insure. Upon arrival I explained the situation, spoke to the owner who happily gave me the keys to have a look around (it was in the showroom.)
I went through my ticksheet, checked everything, discussed any relevant issues. The owner, in my experience was great. Even his son was very helpful, although he was a bit of a look at meeee kind of chap with his tuned up Audi S3 sitting out the front of the showroom for all to see.
An hour later my Dad was on the phone transferring a deposit. There were a couple of items that needed addressing on the car in question. As soon as a deposit was received they were all rectified before collection.
Upon arrival, the car was prepped and ready, however they had forgotton to tax it. They helped us getting to the local post office so that a tax disc could be arranged. They even offered to buy the car back if my Dad ever decided to change. An amount was never discussed.
Fast forward approximately 6 months and I'd bought a sheddy little project and it had number plates with the Williams Motor Co logo. It must have been sold by them at some point years and years ago. The car I'd bought had no service history so I decided to take a visit to the dealer to see if they could provide any info. To my surprise they had a fair chunk of information on the car and were happy to provide information on the car.
Nice guys, seemed to know their stuff about their range, but they don't seem to want to haggle a great deal (or at all in our case)
This is only my experience with them of course, and this was approximately 2 years ago.

I had a TVR on SOR with Andrew Williams a few years ago. He got in touch with me by e-mail when I had my car on the PH classifieds.
At that time, as I was spending periods working abroad and the fact he wasn't that far away from where I was living, I popped over to discuss his terms and he came across quite pleasantly, (I kick myself now for not seeing through the used car salesman bull
, but it was a busy time of my life), so I had the car in his showroom for a number of months.
Anyone can PM me for the full story, but it ended up being one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life. TVR ownership is a small world and about 9 months later at a car event I randomly met and had a chat with the very nice chap who had actually bought my TVR from Williams and then knowing the date he purchased it meant the final pieces of the puzzle fell into place concerning what Williams had done. I am a man of extreme politeness, calmness and forgiveness, but I have a very particular set of skills and Andrew Wiliams should pray he never meets me again. I wouldn't touch Williams Motors with a barge pole.

I was selling my car last year and had a local R32 lined up to replace it. Anxious to sell before I lost it he sent a one line email : "bring it down"
I work just around the corner on sloper road so thought i'd see what he offered. Arrogant, passive aggressive asshole - praised how good my car was but offered 20% below 'average' book price and refused to budge. Absolutely no people skills whatsoever.
As I left his son came out to apologise and offer me more but I was out of there.
Clearly a massive coke head and often seen driving like a t
t around Cardiff in his Ferrari.

Been down a few times for a look at certain things. It always shocks me how the first two rows of cars are very clean, yet the further back you get the more dusty, unloved and at times delapidating they become. Only had experience of the younger chap who I believe to be the son. I would describe him as genuinely unenthusiastic, short mannered yet not quite rude.
Just watched it. What a lying shyster - avoid at all costs.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... to loose £10k from the sale of my car! HELP! SCAM
All I could think of while watching the garage scenes were "corrr, that's a nice looking Mk2/GT4 etc etc!"
I met this guy a while back when he was trying to convince my mate to let the garage sell his Focus RS on his behalf.
Being sceptical about the whole thing my mate decided to go down and meet him face to face to get a feeling for him, and as I'd seen he had some pretty good stock I took the opportunity to go down with him for a nose about!
Mr Williams comes across as a lovely guy, very proud of himself and his business, and of course his cars. But when it comes to being a good negotiator he's about as good at it as a chocolate teapot is for making a brew.
I cant remember the figures he quoted, but even my mate knew the RS was worth more than what he was saying, and the commission he was looking to take was obscene!
Went over the car picking faults that weren't there too, an alloy refurb being needed on a brand new set of RS rims being an example!
He appears to only know how to drive a car in 1st & 2nd gears too given how long we could hear the RS bouncing off the limits down the estate.
I cant remember what the final straw was for my mate to walk away was, but he was seriously pissed about it and walked out of the garage, with Mr Williams barking "we don't sell chav s
t like that anyway, I was just looking to do you a favour, maaaaateeeeee!" & "come back and see me in 6 months when the car hasnt sold".
3 days after being listed on either here or Autotrader it was sold to a cash buyer.

As for buying a car off this guy, I hope he goes out of business very soon. Me and my brother went to buy a civic type R from him about 4 years ago. The car was a good price but it turns out that the spunk stain on the driver seat, no keys and service history may be the very reason for the price. When I questioned the service history he got all aggressive and said it wasn't important. And refused to provide car with an MOT or anything.
His aggressive attitude was dumbfounding. Me and my brother are very polite people and I think he took us for mugs. We went around the corner and bought a type R from the Honda garage approved used section. It had keys, 1 owner, low mileage and no spunk stain. Result!
I came across him through work many years ago (I work in a pretty obscure professsion) and at the end of my involvement it became apparent that he didnt tred a narrow path and that the Ferrari that he was known for driving like a t
t was probably not his. He was however, very willing to let me test drive a Tuscan (which i had no intention of purchasing!!)
