RAF Marham Charity Track Day Weekend 9/10th April 2011
Discussion
I've seen numerous people doing this in the past at Marham so shouldn't be a problem
If I am attending and coming down with others I assume that I register and pay as the party leader, then once I have my login can add additional cars and drivers

Actually whilst I'm here does anyone know whether it's permitted to fiddle with your motor at Marham? I'm not talking wholesale mechanical changes but being allowed to hook the laptop up to fine tune would be handy, but I've been to track days before where this kind of activity was specifically forbidden on insurance grounds. Is this the case here also?
TIA!
What, I have never heard of that, next you will not be allowed to alter your tyre pressures or adjust your seat belt TIA!
But seriously there has never been an issue at Marham, and why should there be as long as your car is safe and you don't cause any issues with silly driving. I log data when on track and examine it in the paddock, I think maybe if any official believes you are timing your laps then that is a different matter (and will invalidate the organisers insurance!).
I will be using the event as a shake down test before the ring and Spa the following weekend, can't wait for the season to kick off again.

Agreed, it did seem OTT, but certainly at an event at Combe I attended last year it was made very clear that no tweaking of any kind was allowed. The argument against it was that to allow tinkering to go on it would require the event to be insured as a test day and not a track day, which for insurance purposes, are different (apparently, I'm no broker). Might've been a load of nonsense of course but it certainly wasn't the first time I'd heard it.But seriously there has never been an issue at Marham, and why should there be as long as your car is safe and you don't cause any issues with silly driving. Saturday is the day for us...The mustangs are coming, not sure on numbers yet, have 5 so far confirmed and paid for...Cant wait, should be fun... One question, it says no one under 16, does that mean on the base, or in a car...My 14 yr old daughter would like to come and watch...
Pretty sure no one at the event can be under 16 due to the terms of the insurance. That's how its been in the past anyway You did the website registration afterwards? It nearly caught me out as went to close the window after making payment but just noticed that registering for a username & password is a separate process carried out after making the main payment.
There doesn't seem to be a link to register on the site but I believe this is it. I assume you have to use the same email address you booked your ticket with so it can match your details up and offer you the extras for your day when you sign in.

Still umming and aahing about this. Tempted, but don't know if any of my mates have got their cars built or will be up for it. Not sure how well my measly Octavia RS will fit in amongst the TVRs and Porsches and whatnot. Got to justify the cost of a new set of boots plus tank of fuel etc.

Marham is very non-eliteist, and very inclusive. You would be more than welcome in an Octavia - there's literally all sorts of stuff turning up. Typical photos here:http://s263.photobucket.com/albums/ii133/Olly_m4ng...
You will munch a set of tyres though, it's quite a grippy surface.

Hi guys, I'm really interested in doing this track day at RAF Marham but I'm slightly weary about doing it in my normal day to day car.
I understand that I will need insurance, a helmet and most likely a spare set off tyres, but is there anything I have overlooked?
I'm new to this whole track day scene so any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers Jamie

Marham is definitely a good first event if you're interested but unsure. There are a couple of reasons:
It's an airfield, which is generally much easier to drive than a circuit as there's much more opportunity to get it wrong a bit without causing any damage. The same thing on a circuit would have you in the tyre wall, with damage being enevitable.
It's a very easy going atmosphere, not at all agressive and very appropriate for first timers. You won't come across any Jenson Button wannabes, which definitely isn't the case for all other events.
Marham's cheap too!
Regarding insurance - it's actually up to you, as you don't have to have it. If your car's worth anything more than a few hundred quid though, it might be sensible. Most people don't have insurance though - but then you're unlikely to do any damage at Marham as long as you're sensible. I've been on 11 days and there haven't been any car-to-car impacts; just a few offs into the scenery which can be avoided with due care.
The only things you must have (once signed in correctly) are: driving license; fire extinguisher in the car; long trousers and sleeves; a car / motorbike helmet.
Regarding the car, more or less any type is acceptable and all types of things have been there before. You will go through a set of tyres if you do a lot of driving (which you almost certainly will), so bring spares - assemblies if possible. Marham is quite quick, so make sure the car's in good enough condition to be driven flat out for prolonged periods - ie cooling system works properly; enough oil in it etc.
If you do decide to go (which I would in my unbiased opinion), there'll be plenty of people there who will give you some guidance.

Gents.
I am having to approve each registration manually at the moment, so I can take a little time as I can't sit at my computer hitting refresh all day! If you do have any problems or issues with the website, please either PM me or reply to this thread.
It is new and a bit buggy, but we'll get there!
