I see my father's old Elise just sold at Turners. We were looking at bidding on it for spare parts, but the value it fetched at auction went far and above what it was worth for spares. I'm guessing someone was either happy to pay over the odds for it, or someone was buying it with a view to getting it running again. Given that it had a bent rear chassis rail and a split glue joint in the front suspension mount, I'm 100% certain that this car is not safe to be repaired to running condition again. If I see the car for sale in the future in repaired form, I'll be doing my best to warn potential buyers of what they're looking at purchasing.

frown hopefully it will be repaired properly.. or not at all , though more likely it will be back on the road in less than ideal condition..

If anyone fancies a 98 forester let me know biggrin Mine will soon be on its way somewhere else. Bit tatty round the edges but mechanically fine.

Sad thing is it can't be repaired properly. The chassis is bent and that's a no-go as far as Lotus is concerned.

Oh I dont know George, friend of mine owns a chassis straightening business and probably repairs worse off hand build cars such as a little Elise thats had a shunt. If the car can be stripped to its bones and tweaked back into place within set tolerances why would you warn people off? Be awesome if they tried. Sure people need to know its true history...granted. Make a fab targa rally car!!! Id love to see the car back on the road being loved, shown off and cared for rather than a grave stone put up and raped for parts. frown

An Elise's most unique feature is its glued aluminum chassis. Its not like something like an Esprit with a steel chassis that can be bent back into shape and pieces cut out and welded back in.

Out of interest what did the car go for? Is it possible someone bought it for the tags to put an imported elise on the road without going through siv? Or does that only happen with cheaper cars?

Glue joint in the front suspension has peeped and the chassis is heat treated so can't just be bent back into shape.

Car was deregistered so tags can't be used to comply a car.

That Austin looks like fun - might be rather slow but down a twisty road on a nice day I bet it would be great.

Wasn't this MX5 track slag owned by a PH'er?

Had a nice one of these and loved it - only cost $1000 15 years ago - it'd show 100mph in third gear with two left to go. I remember following an Audi for 50 miles at an indicated 120mph.

Good find, shame about the homemade quad light kit though.......
