Interesting site. Anyone for a turbine powered car www.can-am-cars.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=2&idproduct=4

But how does it drive?

Engine:
The shaft drive turbine engine is similar to engines used in the Bell Jet Ranger and Hughes 500 helicopters. This particular model engine weighs 148 pounds, makes approximately 425 horsepower.
DISPLACEMENT: 183 cu. In. (FIA Formula).
HORSEPOWER: 425 HP.

I remember a resturant owner in Paraparumu years ago that had one of these. I drove past as a teenager oogling it. Interesting how things change. The interior doesn't seem in the same league as the exterior. I prefer them without the wing too. www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Lotus/photos/a-99089602/p-40615224.htm

Only 17,000km in 15 years.

Seems like a good price too.

How about a replacement gearbox?

There's a chap in the UK who hillclimbs some sort of sports prototype who has a gas turbine engine installed alongside the Cossie main engine just to drive the turbo-charger! There's video of it on Youtube. It has to be one of the best sounds ever!

I imagine those would be fairly quick around a track, don't suppose they'd be eligible for the production racing series though, and for a toy I think I'd be wanting RWD.

What's the preoccupation with RWD Gravel(sideways)Ben?

Oh . . . hang on idea

If you give up the gravel one day you'll need to get a Se7en driving

hehe Oh I like tarmac too , it doesn't wear the car out as much for a start. But with a relatively slow AWD car its just so much easier to slide it round and push the limits of grip a bit on gravel without having to be as much of a nutter or risk damage to licence to do it. To get a 155bhp Legacy out of shape on tarmac you need to be really quite, um, committed. So I tend to go for the 'smooth&sticky' driving style on sealed roads and get it loose on gravel instead driving

In an ideal world I'd have an Awd turbonuttermobile for practicality and gravel fun, and something like an Elise/Se7en/etc for a toy sealed backroads, trackdays etc(and a few other fun cars as well). Thinking such thoughts helps motivate me to study anyway, even if I'm not gonna be able to afford them for a while.
