CLNZ Taupo Sprints Nov 2005

How long does it actually take to get there?
I normally find myself going south via the Coromandel, or other detours. I haven't driven to Taupo directly from Auckland this century
The last trip was memorable for being the first time I saw a house being transported.
It was 4.00am on a slightly misty night, I might have been going a wee bit fast, I was on those wide sweeping roads near Orakei Korako and I came around a corner to see a 3 bedder coming towards me on both sides of the road...
Surreal, very surreal...

Akl to taupo direct takes about 3 hours... if you have good traffic and are "pressing on" I'll bet you could do it in a little over 2.... you gotta remember, it depends on where you're talking about going FROM, central Auckland and south auckland in afternoon traffic are a good 30 min apart
Photo: you be cool to meet us at BP papakura at 3:30pm then? if so, put the word out to anyone else that's coming along that this is the time and place, we'll make it official. I'm in no hurry. I'll have the missus with me so no driving heroics on the way down, but some good scenic roads and some mildly enthusiastic driving should be good.
I just got my new exhaust on last night and also just got her all freshly WOFD so she's all ready to go.... and she's sounding GREAT!

Have heaps of fun, I think I spotted James S driving his new shape Exige the other day. I was driving along side him on the motorway towards greenlane - Remers stretch and was doing a HUGE rubber neck to see who was in there, without rear ending the person in front of me! Looked like James but hard to tell. Was a bizzaire colour, cross between a gold and silverish tone.
Anyway have fun all! And post up some pics when you get back.

Hehe now I'd just LOVE to see that... if he's got a new Exige, he'll be well pleased.... I'd LOVE to stick close to him on the timesheets... show him what his old car can really do and that the new Exige aint' worth all the money he paid :P He'll be running track stickies though so I'll not have a sh1tshow... still, if I can keep up with Mark and Rhys, I'll be a happy man
I seen the official list of cars through the committee, and theres an Exige against his name He always says to take his car for a blat every time I see him, so I might just take the next offer up
edeited to add... now when I think about it the colour of the Exige was more a light bronze. IMO certainly not my choice of colour.

Yep that was him, James emailed me to tell me to watch out, that he was out to eat some Londa....
I'm still wrestling with an electrical gemlin so hoping to have it "shot" and be on my way Friday - be bumming if i don't.....
See you guys at 3:30 BP between Papakura & Dury off ramps.
As for the way down, I have a few road that maybe of interest, I have to buy a new map make sure I get it right or "left as the case maybe ?"
Fingers crossed for the weather....

Heh... try as he might I doubt James will be able to hold a candle to you.... like it or not he's still lacking a fair few ponies and carrying a fair whack extra weight... the only thing that might swing it in his favour is that he'll be driving no doubt on (basically) slicks and he'll have been down there all week practicing.... we're not a competitive bunch... not 'arf
James is in a Storm Titanium Exige.
The very one that Ken has been building.
He was at Pukekohe on Friday and in spite of some gremlins clocked a 1.12 (I think).
I have a photo from the track that was kindly emailed to me along with some of my own car, but it is probably poor form to post it without asking James first.
This all assumes that we are talking about the same James, of course!

Nice weather all.........
As for James holding candles, he will do OK as the HP doesn't help so much around Taupo, last time round YiMing & Roger (Exige pre death) were quicker....James is a good driver, he won't be slow !
But I was on shit tyres and old shocksso maybe things will improve ?
I still have the electrical gremlin, so hoping I make there & back ?
Taking 2 ECUs so fingers crossed ??
C U all there.
