I remember a resturant owner in Paraparumu years ago that had one of these. I drove past as a teenager oogling it. Interesting how things change. The interior doesn't seem in the same league as the exterior. I prefer them without the wing too. www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Lotus/photos/a-99089602/p-40615224.htm

Now you're just teasing.

Phil (he worked on Trevs in UK and at FastForward) has just moved to ChCh so he could check it out. wink

Make it road-legal and I'll give him $40k bounce
I'm pretty sure with the right people it could be made road legal on a Motorsport Exemption. There was a LHD 993TT on TM that's road legal.

Is that Phil your mechanic that you are referring to?

This Mclaren replica went for more than I was expecting it to. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=99...

Someones made a cheeky offer on the Atom and the owner appears to be entertaining the idea which is always promissing http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=99...

Except it's below the specified Starting Bid . . . so he can't place the bid
That's a shame as he was clearly a very capable guy and someone you could trust implicitly. Guess you'll be moving then smile Did he sell the wrokshop etc or was he partners? Does he have something lined up down CHCH?

Haha never thought of that. Usually most people just say NO so it leads me to think that he might consider it? I think they blimmen ugly personally.

Anyone want a Ferrari 348ts for $16249? Very interesting and the first time I've seen it done with a car. Planes plenty of times.

I couldn't agree more with you both. I would seriously consider a selection of cars as done in the U.K with great success. My mate who resides in Auckland but is working offshore at the moment had a client who was considering a supercar consortium. I emailed him the link and will be interested in his reply.

It appeals to me to be able to enjoy a range of dream cars. I've stuck with the 911's as they've looked after me resale and running cost wise. Ideally I'd like to change cars whenever I got bored or saw something else I liked and wanted to try. Unfortunately the resale would hurt financially.

The other thing for me and probably others like Graham is that i work so much trying to get ahead that often my bike or car sits in the garage more than I would like it too. Being able to just grab one for the day out of the lockup would be superb. My location wouldn't work either frown

It's a tough old game......

My rule of thumb is that if you want to start a hire company so you can use the cars yourself, then your business is going down the s?*thole.

The management of the vehicles is also very important. My staff never drive the cars - we delivered three cars to an event a few weeks ago, and of the other four cars there, all but one were driven. One had come 200 miles and was driven back as well - crazy! Mileage depreciates the cars, means more servicing, more tyres and more damage, which of course means less profit. We always deliver by truck.

Insurance is very dear, but we keep our running costs for the cars down by managing the hires as best we can - I have to say that the figures given by P1 in the EVO article were a joke.

As for those companies who overcharge for damage, I get customers who have been stung before. Our policy is that we return it to the condition that we sent it out in as inexpensively as we can. If we hammer people, they will never use us again.

A lot of our business is now from our existing client base, corporate events and the RPM Club. We also encourage people to come up to Scotland to drive the cars, where they are at less risk, and people enjoy the drive more. We also shy away from putting the cars out at all costs for silly money to any old Tom, Dick and Harry as those are the hires where the car gets damaged and you wish you had not sent it out in the first place - I would rather give a car the weekend off than give it to some geezer who can't really afford it and then rags the arse off it, damaging it in the process.

To give you an idea - our Lambos will typically be out 3 weekends a month, and all we have had is a set of tyres on each and a service, so they have'nt been dear to run.

The AMV8 has paid for itself in a year.

I have spent the money doing some worth while mod's which include, hand built koni adjustable suspension, lightweight steel flywheel & kevlar/ceramic clutch,s&b stainless extractors & cat bypass pipes, techart airbox,Dynalink adjustable ecu, shortshift kit, reclinable race/road seats & 2" clip in harnesses also I have a set of padjet brake pads for it.
Good spotting Graham. Exactly what I thought when I saw it and also my mate when I emailed him the listing. The sad thing is it was one of the tidiest and best set up 993 road cars in NZ... until the new owners put it into a bank a week after owning it frown
