Hi Rhys,

Yellow Elise is Richard Gee's

Mine was the silver one that spent most of the day in the garage (playing it safe as my rear tyres are bald, I really only went to the trackday to give Owen (Izza) a blat around while he was up from Christchurch.

Elises aren't THAT quick around Pukekohe as they've only got about 94WHP, which kills you on the straight. They're more suited to circuits like Taupo and Manfield where you can use the handling advantages more. A stock standard Elise S1 will lap Pukekohe in the mid-high 1:13 bracket with a few sensible mods like mine getting you into the mid 1:12s... cars that are more modified like Richard Gee's will see you into the 1:11s, which is the same time as a later 111R Elise (with the Toyota 190bhp 2ZZGE engine). From there you can go to Honda-power like the Green and Red S1s that were there which will get you anywhere from 1:08 to 1:06 or lower, but then you're talking about fairly big money.

Dean's Elise PTR (the red one) that's lapping in the low-1:07s is for sale on trademe if you've got a spare $60k or so

Don't dismiss your MR2 though... a friend in the Lotus club has a very mildly modded one (exhaust, chip) with decent rubber and he's getting 1:12s out of it

DC2 Integras are fantastic out-of-the-box trackday cars, particularly the Type Rs

Given the same driver of course George......

And a lot of the time is in the tyres. I reckon a 111R on AO48s would be a good bit quicker than mine.

And a lot depends on the type of track. At Pukekohe - power is obviously the major thing. The Honda cars are doing 30-40 km more per hour (than just about anything else) by the time they reach the kink on the back straight. That's a huge difference. At Taupo, may be weight and tyres would be the critical factors...?

Yeah tyres makes a huge difference (albeit less at puke than any other track). I know Richard Price (User Photochromatic) who was there in his red 111R has been clocked somewhere in the mid 1:11 range and that's about the quickest 111R I've heard of. James has been in the low 1:11s in his Exige but it's capable of more. Richard Price's 111R on 048s would be capable of mid-low 1:10s I'm sure.

The only thing with going to 048s on standard suspension is that you tend to hit the bumpstops too soon which can turn the car unpredictable. I'm already hitting the bumpstops with standard rubber! so I'd hate to see what happens if I strapped sticky tyres on! (anyone wanna lend me their nitrons and 048s?

Sticky tyres on S2 Bilstein conversion is one thing, but on standard, soggy Koni reds is a nightmare.... mine's starting to do some VERY naughty things.... all donations to the nitron fund gratefully received

Hmmm - slicks might put this sort of strain on the car, but I'm not sure AO48s are 'that' dynamic... They are not a million miles away from the Neovas I had before, just slightly more grip in the dry and slightly less grip in the wet. Handling characteristics are similar. In fact, the 48s with more dry grip tend to mean (for me) you have to drive more precisely to go fast. Chucking it into corners doesn't seem to work - it's this sort of thing that would have you on the bump stops and straining the track rods ends surely? Slicks would certainly have that effect, but not sure about 48s. You should may be fit them onto yours for an afternoon George..... ;-)
