Yeah theres a Tuscan I saw a few weeks ago will be made roa dlegal with this, $100-110k.
Sorry, not with you on how they came up with that value, considering the cars in mind need ownership for 4 years before selling, secondly I presume its the 2000 whine red Tuscan with the t440 front,I had no idea the Tuscan had aquired classic car status. As for classic status among Wheeler-era TVRs... IMO the Sagaris will be numero uno for its styling, rarity, performance and because its the last TVR, followed by the Griff and then the AJP8 Cerbera.

I reckon a Cerbie body with an LS8 engine would be an instant classic eh, Don?
Nope, mine's a bd child that no-one will love but me. All TVRs (original ones that is) deserve true classic status, I love 'em all but I've also got my favourites .I've been thinking for a while there's no point in even trying to keep the rest of the Cerb original given the heart transplant and the fact there'll be plenty more real originals here before too long. I'm looking at making it more motorsport oriented - competition seats (original ones are GT-luxurious and heavy as hell), MANZ rollcage to replace the non-compliant factory one, bit of subtle aero like a splitter and diffuser (but no wing)...
I'm rapt that this change gives me a route to get my project on the road either as a motorsport vehicle or a Special Interest Vehicle, but a bit worried about how loose the definition of a SIV is. As well as the magazine article ambiguity (they were going to include motoring websites too!) they also haven't made 'high performance vehicle' or 'coupe' defined terms. As a coupe is anything the marketers say it is these days (there's a 4-door Merc "coupe" now did you know) I can see some debate coming around that. The 200 permits per year allocation is better than the 50 in the draft amendment but I think with such a loose definition it will still be oversubscribed.
Anyway... it could be better worded IMO but it's fantastic that it's there at all in these days where there's so little good news from Govt for petrolheads! Nice one Harry!

Does this new ruling circumvent the emissions rules as well as the frontal impact rules? Or will this get you by on frontal impact only to have you stumble at the emissions hurdle? (Given that Chims, Griffs, Cerbs and most Tuscans won't meet the current emissions restrictions, possibly only the post-2000 TVRs when they went to universal EURO3 standards will get through.
IIRC if you qualify for the FI special interest vehicle category, the emissions standards requirements get waived. And from the emissions FAQ:
Immigrants (baggage vehicles), special interest and motor sport vehicles: will not have to comply with the new standards under a proposed amendment to Land Transport Rule: Frontal Impact 2001. NB: Immigrants' vehicles are generally of a high standard, but the owners are unlikely to have documentation to clearly demonstrate their compliance. To prevent any potential abuse of this provision, the Rule proposes the same requirements as are in the proposed Land Transport Rule: Frontal Impact Amendment [2008] that vehicles must have been owned overseas for a period and cannot be sold in New Zealand for a fixed period. This amendment is scheduled to be signed before mid 2008.

The original problems are now well understood and were little to do with engine design, just chocolate components. There are a number of independents offering rebuild services that addresses those problems - not cheap, but once it's done you should get as many kms as any other highly tuned engine. Being in NZ and on the other side of the world from those independents however....
There's no limit on immigrant's vehicles, 200 per year on SIVs.

Tuscan with an asking price of 14,750 squids
= $37,000
plus shipping and UK export costs say $5000
plus GST $5,250
plus NZ clearance, certification, contingency say $2500
Total $49,750
Maybe there's some costs I haven't included, but I haven't negotiated with the seller who's had it advertised for two weeks already either

Sorry I didn't notice it earlier so responses could be put in.
TBH I'm not sure it would have made a difference in this case Dan without public outcry on the level of the anti-smacking bill. They may not have decided the method of execution, but the intended result of this looks set in stone. Not forgetting this one Jamie:
