Yep, every time I've been on one there has been mainly sensible spirited driving but there's always one who makes overtakes to keep up because they feel pressured and those overtakes are questionable for spirited driving, and to normal drivers look dangerous.

To get lumped in with those dubious decisions because I am in the same convoy was unacceptable to me. Certainly to have mrs micra whos never done more than 30mph in her entire life, and never overtaken anything, but is a pillar of the community, stand up in court and say 'racing' would be devastating. Her opinion would be bolstered by the general perception of fast cars organising a get together on a forum like this.

Nowadays, unfortunately, I hoon with immediate trusted friends only. Reading some reports of joint venture makes for scary reading.
This was why, after going to two PH Kent/Surrey meets I stopped. There was always someone who felt they had to do 100mph past the grasshopper, and there was a high likelihood of said idiots killing another road user or a spectator.
confused This thread is about runs, not static meets. I have yet to see any spectators on a run.

As for joint enterprise/common purpose, such charges are usually sought for very serious offences such as manslaughter/murder.
Probably the most widely known example to the general public is Derek Bentley.
I would be interested to see a link to a case where it was used for a motoring offence.

Having said that I organised a drive down to Goodwood for some TVR folk, we didn’t really go over 80mph on the motorway (maybe 83) and just did the speed limit across the South Downs way. You didn’t really want to do much more.

So yes, this is what puts me off these aswell, add to that you always have the chance of the “racing driver” of the pack pranging into you.
If everyone has the route given to them beforehand there is absolutely no need for anyone to do stupid stuff to 'keep up'.
The key to any run in the south east is to start early, so Mrs Micra will still be dreaming about her bingo win the previous evening.

I really wanted to make this run but I don't think my car will be ready in time frown
Delayed gratification is that much sweeter. wink

Sorry I should have made it more clear.. that being, for some reason people seem to do the stupidest things when in a group.

Although I haven’t discounted joining the run, but will wait and see what the weather is like closer to the time. Looks like snow next week.

Certainly not the case on the runs that jaykaybi organised all those years ago.
I've only been on a handful of PH runs since (in other areas, as nothing much has been happening in Kent).
None of the participants in them have given me any cause for concern.

Static meets otoh... rolleyes

Another 3 weeks until the proposed date, so who knows.
One thing seems to be farly clear though.
For most of this month it's going to be censored cold!

Is it worth setting a backup date a few weeks later now, rather wait until the weekend of the run? So people can get it into their diaries?
