I would suggest the Bounty at Bourne End, but since you can't drive there, probably not too good a suggestion.

Have we thought of a date for this yet?

I go for the Bounty. You can walk over the bridge or go by boat! I will charge 1 pint of Stella for each journey!

I seem to remember the food being pretty average and the tables/menus pretty sticky at the Spade Oak, but we'd be up for it. Er, when? Now it's holiday time there will be lots of walkers/families trying to nick our parking spaces. Sat lunch/teatime might be easier than Sun at this time of year.

I have an alternative suggestion, we went here a few weeks ago - loads of parking in various overflow carparks and great food (plus a nice drag up the A40 to get there ).

It's in a place called Shabbington. Anyone else know it? Definitely worth a drive out.

nice pub that!

What about the Crown in Penn? Large car park (although it does get busy), slightly more upmarket than the Spade Oak too...(tables are less sticky)

Yes this ex-Beaconsfield boy reckons the Crown is a good choice. Lots of parking but you gotta turn up pronto to get a space.

Spade Oak was a bit manky as I recall. But it's been a while.

What was that other place in Penn we went to previously about a year ago ? Wasn't too bad.

There's the 'Hit or Miss' in Penn Street. Lots of parking around abouts this place. Good grub and outside tables. Very Midsomer Murders location.

Halfway down the hill on the LHS right? Good food for sure. Not sure what the strip is - sounds fun though

Think that'll be the The Three Horseshoes. Decent pub now owned by the Rebeliion Brewery Co, Independent in Little Marlow, this is their first tied house. Not sure about teh car park though, whenever I've been it's been a tight squeeze. And what with it being on a fast hill there's no parking elswhere. Rich...

Is the Golden cross the hotel, or the pub?

If it's the pub it has a good outside area, but parking is limited - and it gets busy at weekends...
Along the same road is the Red Lion, at the turning up to Bradenham - has a larger car park round the side.

Other suggestions could be the Crows Nest on the old A41 nr Tring - v big car park and plenty of tables inside & outside

Or The Woolpack nr Aylsebury/Stoke Mandeville

Both good suggestions with large parking areas. Or how about the Firescrest in Great Missenden.

Good, but it's as far as my Old Fisherman suggestion. Also gets full with lunch trade, esp. Sundays.

Great Missenden? How on earth did you work out the firecrest is in Missenden? It's all of a mile outside of Wendover (and you should know) and easily three times that from GM

It is a little more that that. Before the Firecrest, and before it was the Office, it was the Halfway House, a Charlie Wells pub.

Once upon a time it used to be the shittiest, dirtiest truckers stop you could find for 30 miles. Now it is a "respectable" family pub/restaurant.

Even in the days of being the halfway house it was a shithole and that was after it was renovated. Drove past it every day for years on the way to/from Aylesbury and not once was I tempted to stop for a drink (unlike most of the other pubs on the route)

You are not wrong there, but the steakwich was not so bad, and the Bombadier was OK, but when it became the office they could not keep a pint worth spit.
