As some of you may know I organised a day up at Prodrive for Rob and a few others for his Birthday.
Nope.
How does this work then & when's the next one?
There might be another one later in the year, I will be looking for volunteers.......
As long as I get to drive & not make the tea!

Well I said I would, so I guess I should make an effort, here's my view of our play:
So we had the introduction and the unveiling of the M3 and some lunch off to a bloody good start! They also had a static model Hydrogen 7 on display. We (I mean anyone with a pulse) couldn't stop but stare at the M5 / M6 as they left the pits at full whack making that noise!
Then it was off road in both the X5 and X3, they work, I have to say I didn't think they would, but boy does the x-drive jobbie just get on with it. Hill hold / decent also works and yes, as rob says I got told off and had it suggested the I put the fire out needless to say I think you could have gone a damn site faster whilst being in perfect control and safe.
Then we move over to the track time... I can't really remember all of this too clearly as I just remember jumping into as many cars as possible. I'm pretty sure that included 2 passenger laps in a 730d, then a few laps in each of the following: Z4m roadster, 130i, 335i and then a 750iL. I have to say they were all bloody good fun, but there is just something sooo silly about trying to get a 750 around a track! The instructors were good however I think a few were a bit cautious about being killed
We also got to play with the new one series that turns itself off when the engine isn't required, which is bloody weird and also tells you what gear you should be in to save fuel. A quick play with the lane departure warning system in a 535d and my overwhelming view what that it all just works so a round of applause for BMW.
The we had some fun with a 320d msport on the low grip surfaces with DTC off then traction control off! I could do that all day long even in an auto
A quick dash around some cones which some (who shall remain nameless) seemed intent on moving and a time recorded in the new Mini Diesel. Nigel did a very professional demo of a handbrake turn in the process
Then there was just a quick pop out on the public roads in convoy somehow me and Nigel managed to grab the 335i Cab and lovely it was too, I think we established that something in the auto drive train wouldn't stand up to either of our driving for long and it was bloody good fun trying to get the stability warning lights to flash on the kick down
Then there was just time for a passenger lap in the M5 tourer with a nutter called Charlie at the wheel, lots of grinning and a serious desire to own a car with that engine in it!
A bloody funny day, but it'd be even more fun to give it a go when you haven't knackered your back!
Thanks again Nigel!

Please lady!!
Regardless of what is going on next time, it really was a good day out and its an eye opener as to just how much technology goes into these cars without the end user ever finding out.
I think the biggest shock of the day was seeing just how quickly an X5 3.0D can go around the track!
