Pirbright Speed limit Change!!!

I guess that is the straight section between the golf course and the rail bridge bend. From a standing start overtake I can see big problems with 3 cars going for that but if you wind it up before the kink and care less for the speed limit you could sneak 2 at a push. Even so possibly quite dangerous to do that even now as the roadside edge is heavily waterlogged.
I think we might well be talking about different sections. It's difficult to describe exactly, but the bit I'm talking about is from about half way along Mytchett Place Road, which then becomes Grange Road as you head from Mytchett to Pirbright. It's the alternative route to the B3012 (Gole Road) that I think you're talking about. All the overtakes were done here, ironically just before the actually well placed 30 limit that's been there for years: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Mytchett+Place+Ro...
Wish I'd found this forum a year ago!
I'm in Frimley and I drive this route probably once a week - used to be daily to Woking. I signed Dizeee's petition last year because living in those houses in Pirbright must be hell, yet every other car seems to hammer it along there, why it hasn't always been 30 beats me. But speed limits don't seem to mean much do they? I'm always being tailgated or even overtaken between the lights in Pirbright when I drive at 30, and just about every other road in the area is the same. St Catherine's Road in Frimley being a prime example.
Yesterday they were putting in 30mph repeater signs Eastbound on the bends. I had no idea this was in the offing and I was incensed - mandatory speed limits should *never* be the solution to inadequate driving skills (IMO), what this needs is illuminated "Dangerous Bends" signage. Surrey's report (available on line) seems to say that very little reduction in speed will happen anyway, so what's the point of ruining another "driver's" road? The result will be that those intent on killing themselves will continue to do so, while those of us who want to abide by the law will either end up ignoring it (I think that's going to be me) or be forced to comply by those who think they now have to drive the whole road at 25. Stand by for frustrated overtakes - and yet more accidents.
I hope the petition for 30 in Pirbright hasn't been used to enforce the same limit on the bends - that's not what was required.
Sorry for long rant from a first time poster!

Firstly, welcome to PH. Secondly, I couldn't agree more with all of the above.Dizeee said:
I have no idea what half of these posts are on about, absolutely nothing has changed on the bends in Pirbright or towards Frimley, everything is still 40 or NSL.
The only thing that has changed is a notice of intended works ( new signage for the new limits ) starting in March.
The latest changes are on the road which runs pretty much parallel, slightly further south of Pirbright bends. Effectively running from Pirbright to Mytchett Place Road. The only thing that has changed is a notice of intended works ( new signage for the new limits ) starting in March.

It's changed east bound, but not westbound so far, I am referring to the route going under the bridge towards Deepcut from the top of Gore Road. Coming from Deepcut Bridge Road it's now 40 / 30 /40, going from Pirbright end it's 40 / National Speed Limit / 40 - I think they may be half way through the work The only thing that has changed is a notice of intended works ( new signage for the new limits ) starting in March.
Coming out of a Frimley Green goes from 30 now to 40 until about half a mile before the railway arch esses where it now drops to 30. Then goes up to 40 all the way to Pirbright lights at railway arch.
Guys were putting the signs up this morning and had not done the reverse direction but when I returned at 3pm it's all done both ways

So, with the proviso that it may not be finished yet, as it currently stands the 30 and 40 limits are 'tother way around to what was expected?
Nice if it was a simple error, but I fear the worse...
I think they've missed an NSL sign too. Heading west from Pirbright along Grange Road it's signposted NSL (as normal). Heading into that road when heading west, the last speed limit sign on the Mytchett Place road is a 30, then you turn off onto Grange Road and there's no NSL sign. I will have to wait and see if someone has cocked up and not thought about that section.Nice if it was a simple error, but I fear the worse...
As for the new 30 limit, I followed a van down there earlier, but he completely ignored the new limits and drove at a speed appropriate for the road and conditions...like I hope most will.
I wouldn't be too worried about the signage, the written plans were very clear and concise, and the "intended works" signs are all in the correct places along the road for the existing limit signs to be replaced.
I can't see me doing 30mph down any of the uninhabited parts of the bends either. In fact I can't see anyone doing it.

Drove this yesterday, very odd, it is 30 all the way along the bends. Weirdest 30 limit I have ever seen, despite the signs and the new limit, can't help thinking it's a bit of a practical joke.
Needless to say nobody pays any attention, plus now I have some interesting overtaking options I didn't have before.

Go through Brookwood along Connaught road. Turn left under bridge then immediately right. Follow the road. At the crest a couple if miles in you will then right towards Frimley Green under the rail bridge or go straight on towards Mytchett up the hill.
However, if you go straight onto Mytchett Place Road instead of going right under the railway bridge, you'll soon hit the bit that's now 30, cut from NSL. Of course, you could do what everyone else seems to be doing there and ignore it.I've never before seen such a draconian, stupidly low limit put in place.
