Back on topic (sorry) i've just had a call from my mum in Caversham. She's out getting sand bags filled (with sand in fact). The Environment Agency dropped by earlier, after three phone calls, to say that she's likely to be wading to the kitchen sink by tomorrow morning so she needs to put some sand bags in place.
Oh dear! Where abouts in Caversham does she live? Is it down towards Amersham Estate? I've seen the roads flooded down that way before.

They're expecting the river to rise 5 feet yikes this evening and tomorrow morning.
That's not funny - my boat is moored in Wargrave... frown
Just the time when you don't want blocked scuppers!!

Alot of people at willowtree mariner have had problems in the past where they havent come to slacking off the mooring ropes whilst the water level rises above the jetty. They end up capsizing if it gets high enough or they take onboard alot of water.

I hope no-one gets flooded frown
Just checked my insurance policy and i'm covered... doesn't make me feel much better though. Friends in Purley are currently sand-bagging and moving what they can upstairs. But 5-6 feet will put a lot of Purley, Pangbourne, Henley, etc under at least a foot of water. frown

Can we go back to discussing Ben's new car now - that was far more fun! biggrin

Ben, simple question, after the Audi does your heart lie in an open top car or another saloon? If you really want an open top you'll know if not get the saloon because you'll get pissed off with the leaks! Not that I can see for one minute how you can mention the 5 series in the same breath as the Chimaera and VX220. hehe

Ah right. Well Kings Meadow is a flood plain! I thought the houses bordering it were protected by a ditch around the perimeter though? Guess the worry is this weather may overwhelm that frown

All bit over the top some of this reporting. The river is at high winter levels. In marlow (below the weirstream) we have had an 8 inch rise in the last 24hours. To get to 2003 levels we need another 3ft. May happen but no signs yet and the environment agency are saying the same. Sorry to all those upstream but you buy a house on the flood plain and it will flood!

Rich, I don't mind getting wet / impractical / pretty much anything... I think a westfield is a step too far though hehe And there is a good reason for the M5, well about 400 of them!

Ben - can't recall what you set the budget at but what about this:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/173047.htm

Need to consider costs when something like an M5 or Chim goes wrong, unless you are going to get a warranty. A VX220T would probably be a lot safer bet.

Or, what about a 3.2 Boxster? Seriously underated car IMHO.

My car nearly floated away when our underground car park flooded in Maidenhead and I had water p*ssing through the roof of my house on Friday. laugh

But then we have a fully open flood relief scheme these days, which should at least mean that Windsor is spared the worst, but I pity the people further downstream where more water will arrive quicker frown

Hey RichB - was that one of your photos I saw on the BBC Berks website, the "Volvo S60 powerboat" ? biggrin

if only i could post pictures i could show how the river and boat is moving towards the house! The 9pm environment agency states slow rise in river levels to peak on Wednesday and not to 2003 level (Marlow bit). River has risen max 1 inch since last post!

Will keep you informed
