My son and I used to own this one. I had a real 'twinge' when I saw it. A fabulous car, well underrated. It never let me down and only dropped my son at the side of the road once. On a trip back through France I totally misjudged a corner and found just how good the balance and roadholding of the car was.

If anyone is in doubt as to whether to go for one or not, then do not hesitate.

Anyway, thanks for posting the picture.

Hi Derek,

That's my car now. Aside from the paint which I'm saving up for it's still in good shape and now living in Oxfordshire. I've done quite a lot to it mechanically since I bought it a little over a year ago and it's now getting to the point where it can be used (reasonably) reliably.

I've still got some of your receipts in the stack of paperwork that came with the car!!

Regards
Geoff

P.S. It's also the one shown in a recent picture on page 5 and on g32.co.uk (which I really ought to do something more with!!).

Geoff,

I've still got the original Ginetta marked loose carpets. I'm just outside of Brighton. If you are ever in the area let me know and I'll let you have them. I thought I'd given them to the chap we sold it to but I was clearning out the garage before Christmas and found them in a box. Got me going 'all nostalgic-like.'

I really liked the car. The only fault was the gearchange and even that could be worked around.

Once I was driving it to a TVR regional meet through the back lanes of Sussex and suddenly got a RV8-engined Tuscan Challenge racing car on my tail. It was unable to keep up when it got all twisty.

I was going to keep it when I bought my Chimaera but ended up hardly driving it.

All the best,

Derek

Not sure where i got the pic from derek, it was on my old computer hardrive, is it you sprinting it?

Bit of a strange one this. I had an email last night through pistonheads which read:
'Hello, I thought you want a picture of the real g34 for your collection. Regards from Sweden'
I've emailed back but no further info as yet...!

I believe that was the last owner (Chris Jones) sprinting it but I stand to be corrected.

Derek could you possibly email me with a contact number - click on my user name then click 'email me' on the top right. I can't imagine I'll be down that way any time soon but I might make a trip down to pick them up. Either that or would you consider posting them if I re-imburse you for any costs?

Thanks,
Geoff

That's a very nice G27, what engine are you running? Looking at the exhaust tip it looks like it could be something other than the norm? Did I once sell you some Avo's by any chance?!

Have to say that does look the biz. cool
Dash is not my preference but rest of car is very nice.
Spoilt only by the rear lights -

WHY o why did they ever fit 'trailer' lights? Yuk!redcard
All that time and money into a super looking machine and they stick on a pair of five quid lights. (Even 'late' Imp rear lights would look better - at least they would be from a 'car' and would also match the lower reverse/fog lights.

Leave trailer lights on trailers and lorries ...and Caterhams(lol).
They deserve them.

Thanks,

I think I am the new owner of your Avo's.

Engine is a 165bhp 2000cc zetec and the exhaust system is a custom stainless steel job.

I also have a G27 S2 with a boat anchor in it (supercharged Ford 2000cc V6 from an old european Ford Capri). Well, it's a boat anchor but ... what a sound.

I must admit the rear lights are not nice ... I should look for something else.

After much thought I fabricated these into the back of my '33 to replace the origional Vauxhall units. Reasonably happy after I cut chunks out of the bodywork !

Better remedy, just the one. Keep it going this could become the Ginetta (all types) photo album biggrin

Wow, any more info on this little car? Judging from the filename it's a Dare, but Googling turns up nothing about this specific car. If it is road legal, what kind of windshield is it using? It is not Ultima or Stratos as it is curved in all dimensions...

Out of interest, is it related in any way to any Ginetta?

Yes, designed by the Walkletts (who ran Ginetta). Built as a showcase of their talent for the 1998 Motor Show.

But Lotus tried to steal DARE's thunder at the same show with their hastily produced 340R biggrin looks like a modern beach buggy biggrin.

Of course, the mainstream motoring press lapped up the Loti despite the fact when the covers were taken off the 340R at its show launch it received little more than mild handclaps (I know, I was standing with the crowd there at Press Day! Bet there isn't any film of that about!) and predictably they gave the DZ the 'damning with feint praise' write ups after the show.

Outrageous - if the DZ had had a Lotus badge, the hacks would have been wetting themselves praising it til the cows came home.

The DZ is a fabulous car, but perhaps like some of the Walklett Ginettas, just a tad too small. DARE should, imo, have built a slightly larger version.
When I drove it (the one pictured) I had crowds round the car everywhere I went.

Here's a video of it (and the amazing Gullwing version) on Top Gear. Starts 8 mins into video.
Note the ironic set-up (imo) last words of Vicki Buter-Henderson at the end after driving the 210bhp Supercharged version.
