There was a new/old stock seller on ebay that I found for one of the metal pipes I needed for mine, the one with the banjo clips. Want me to go for a dig into my old feedback and see if I can find them?

One of the chaps on fiesta turbo.com might also be able to help you out with OEM spares
Hi
You prob mean Tom Peters; I have e-mailed him but he does not currently have one.

I also have a wanted advert on Fiestaturbo.com.....

One will turn up

Wow, just wow!

As has been said, incredible attention to detail, dare I ask what are your plans once it is finished?
Thank you!

When finished hopefully I can enjoy it over the Summer months and then decide the best course of action.

A photographer from a magazine has been in touch as they would like to do an article on it.

If I get a good offer I will sell; if not I will keep it long term.

Cheers

You've got me like a junkie! I need a fix - any progress? biggrin
Hi
Yes there has been progress!! Just not been updating.

Since the last time I posted on here:

The tyres were delivered and fitted

The windscreen and rear screen have been fitted

The driveshafts have been fitted

Purchased a new battery

I STARTED IT!!!

It started first time, had a few leaks but most have been sorted. It still sounds a bit noisy but it would do after a rebuild.

I did a compression test on the engine this week and the results are good.

I have ordered a new brake master cylinder as I am having problems with getting brake pressure. It will be here tomorrow.

I will take some good pictures of it outside on the weekend and get them up. For the time being the following show what has happened:

4 X Toyo T1 R's

1 very, very hard to source turbo oil drain pipe:

Rear screen fitted with new rubber:

New windscreen fitted with new rubber:

As always, let me know what you think!

Cheers

edited to add - is it keeping the original "H" reg or will you have to re-register it with it having a new shell?

Edited by The Highway Man on Thursday 22 March 19:53
Keeping original identity hopefully.
Will speak with the DVLA although I have done a fair amnount of research on the matter.

Christ almighty! That is amazing attention to detail, patience and dedication. Sureley there isn't much to do now!? What are you going to do when it's completely finished?
Hi
Firstly thank you very much to all the kind words and comments.

I had problems with the brakes. After bleeding them using different methods it became apparent that there was a problem. I got someone to hold the brake pedal down whilst the car was on stands, even though I knew the pedal was very soft and virtually going to the floor, I needed to know if the brakes were acting on the wheels.
Both front wheels were held and the drivers side rear was also held. The passenger side rear was not held at all though. I removed the drum and immediately was greeted with the fault. The shoes and the inside of the drum were covered in black fluid. The cylinder (a brand new part...) was leaking, contaminating the new shoes. If the cylinder is leaking air will be getting in as well as fluid getting out.

I have ordered new shoes (again) and a new cylinder (again) so will try and get it working over the weekend.

I also need to fit the drivers side wing mirror, tighten the glass and fit the door card, have a look at the passenger side electric window, fit the stereo, fit an exhaust hanger, find a new Ford badge for the bonnet, find and connect up all the windscreen washer system, fit the wipers all round etc etc etc.

Still lots of smallish jobs to do before I can even think about getting it to have the wheels aligned and MOT'd.

When it is complete I am still unsure what to do with it. I have a photographer who has been intouch with the potential of a magazine feature.

After this and a bit of fun hopefully driving it, I will either store it (long term) or if the right offer comes along sell it.

It is encouraging to see that there is a nice one for sale on e-bay at the moment. It has only done 20k miles and looks clean but there will be rust on there somewhere. It is currently on £5-6000 I think so looks like it will sell for good money. Mine will look the same as that one on the outside but mine will have the advantage of it being as clean in all the places you can't see.

As for experience of this kind of thing before I started this project; not a lot. I have looked after my own cars and brought and sold quite a few cars but a lot I have learnt as I go.

Thanks again for all the motivation and as soon as I get the next few bits done I will get some pictures up!

Cheers

Just read the thread from start to finish.

I have to admit that I have never been a Ford person and Mk.3 Fiestas even of the turbo variety leave me completely cold.

However, I completely take my hat off to you over the dedication, hard work, and commitment you have lavished on the car. It is a complete credit to you, I don't know how you have stayed so focused!

There was a guy who did a similar nut and bolt restore on a late Saab 900 "Monte Carlo" convertible a few years back, reckons it cost him well over £20k.

When it is all finished definitely get an agreed value insurance policy on it.

This thread makes me sad because I know that I will never have the time or skills to do this myself frown

By the way, fantastic garage!
Very, very kind of you, thank you.

I have been tied up with other things over the past week or two so hope to finish the Fiesta shortly.

I've only just seen this thread, don't think I've seen it before anyway!

Are you on fiestaturbo.com? Don't recognise the car/username I don't think.

Car looks great from every angle, I have a Mk3 project at the moment but things are a little slow. Will be keeping an eye on this now.
Hi Mate
I do use Fiestaturbo.com but have not done a thread like this on there.
Use it for advice though

Well the Fiesta was picked up this morning on a low loader destined for the garage.
A few jobs will be finished before being MOT'd; naturally unless there are any problems.

I temporarily fitted the number plates this morning and the wheel centres are not fitted but all the same it looks good:

Before leaving:

Off she goes!!:

Thanks guys, some really excellent comments.

I called up to the garage today to see if they have sorted the final couple of jobs. He is pretty busy but said that it should be going for an MOT next week. He had done the tracking the best he can without it being laser aligned (it will be later)and he had driven it.
He said it went well and all seems as it should.

As soon as I have it back I will give it a full clean and a polish before putting up some final pictures.

At times it was hard work but it really is partly due to the comments and advice on here that has helped!

Cheers

IT PASSED, IT PASSED, IT PASSED!

The MOT that is.....

Had a call from the garage to say that it flew through the MOT with no problems what so ever!

I am picking it up on Monday so will tax it at the same time.

There are some small jobs to finish when I get it back inc a Ford badge for the bonnet, drivers door card fitting properly,, get a new VIN plate and a few other jobs.

I will then get the tracking done and run it for a week or two before getting it set up properly some where like Power Engineering.

As soon as I get the above small jobs done next week I will give it a proper clean and polish and get some finished pictures up! It is dirty as it has been sat outside at the garage for a few weeks.

Cheers

Amazing.
It is a credit to you. What a feeling to stand back and say " I did that "

The only thing is I would not want to use it for fear of it getting dirty or blemished.
Well done matey. Top job.
Thank you.

Well this morning I drove to Power Engineering in Uxbridge for it to be set up on a rolling road.
I met the technician called Ian and stood back whilst he worked his magic!
I knew the mixture was well out so this was attended to as well as adjustments to the fuel pressure and actuator load etc were made.

After an hour on the dyno it was running much better; much smoother and the results are good to.
Ford quoted circa 130bhp as standard so I knew 20+ years would mean the loss of some horses but we still managed 124.6!

It drove much better on the way home so I am very pleased.

There are a couple small jobs that I will sort over the next week or so before I get some finished pictres up!

The guys at Power Enginnering were superb; a real professional outfit with a passion and knowledge to match!

That is an incredbile build mate, really hope you are chuffed with the results, certainly looks like you should be!

Its nice to see someone getting so much support of the PH community as well!

Would defo like to see this car in the flesh. Are you planning on going to any shows?
Thanks mate!
I have never been into the whole car show thing to be honest.

I am still not sure what I am going to do with it as I will be starting my next project in the next couple of weeks; a mk1 Golf GTi.
I will run a similar thread to this in the VW forum.

If someone wants the Fiesta and they offer a fair price I would be very tempted to sell to make room for the Golf.

I have a dash binnacle for a mk1 golf which I will donate if you require
Very generous,thank you!

Will be in touch if I need it. The general idea is to collect the shell I have purchased in the next couple of weeks. I will then paint the shell in its original colour of white.

I will then buy a mk1 Golf Gti with a rotten shell and strip the parts from the donor car onto the refurbished shell renewing or refurbishing parts as I go.

I spent some time on a MK1 GTI basically undoing a lot of mods which the previous owner thought were AWESOME!

I bought:-
P Slots
MK1 Campaign interior in Green/Black
2nd hand dx engine

I left the following mods on it:-

single wiper conversion
5 Bar grille from Mk2
Smoothed tailgate
MK2 chin spoiler
Spax adjustables all round
cross drilled and grooved discs
Stainless exhaust

When I sold it it looked like this

Then my mate bought it from me and lost his licence in it

SO he sold it to his mate who couldnt drive who promptly did this to it within a week :-

by lift off oversteering into a ditch and rolling it along a fence line - rather him than me!
That would now be perfect for me!
I could use everything bar the shell on the new project!

Hi
Well the sun was shining this morning so I decided to pull the Fiesta out and give it a wash. Apologies to Matt from RedWater Auto who supplied me with Dodojuice wax; I will wax it when I get chance!

As some of you will know I have begun the restoration of a MK1 Golf GTi, with this in mind I have made the decsion to put the Fiesta up for sale!!

Now it will not be sold for peanuts and if it does not sell first time round I will most probably keep it long term. I have put it on E-bay without a description as have put the link in for this thread:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1991-FORD-FIESTA-RS-TURB...

I have had a lot of excellent feedback already. The main reason for selling is that I could do with the full garage back for the Golf. I have set a reserve price but it is set at less than what the car owes me.

There are still a few jobs to be done but will leave them for a new owner. For example I have not had time to get the tracking done, wire the stereo in etc.

Ok, I know you lot like pictures so I have taken quite a few...... I have even done a short video (click on the link).

Please enjoy the pictures and once again THANK YOU! This has not been an easy project and your support, motivation and advice has not gone unappreciated.

Cars in particular always look better in pictures than they do in reality. To any potential buyers out there please be aware that I am an amateur; the paintwork looks good in the pictures but there are areas that are not brilliant. The Fiesta needs to be used, please remeber that it has only just been put back together, it will need refining and tweeking as you go.

ENJOY!.....

No need to apologise, it's good for the Golf (and daily runner) too! Don't know what colour it's going to be but it doesn't matter that the wax is the 'Red / Orange / Warm' one - can slap it on whichever colour you wish as you know.

Still can't believe that you're selling the Fiesta straight away, I guess it was more about the project than the car was it?

Anyway, I'm definitely watching the Golf thread with interest!

Good luck with all of it.

Matt
Hi matt
I guess you are correct in that it was about completing the car rather than me falling in love with this particular make/model.

With regard to DVLA: Not sure the name of the member that asked but contact your local DVLA office who can advise.
It works on a points system. You need 8 points or more to retain original identity.
